As I recall from my one listen to the opera,  we see in the first act (or at least the first scene) the hero and heroine as children;  then comes an interval of several years (in plot terms, of course), after which the main action of the opera occurs, when the two main characters are in their late teens or early twenties.

Yes, I believe you're right, Jeffrey. This is one of my favorite operas. I mean it's one incredible moment after another. Right now, I'm on the intermezzo The Walk to the Paradise Garden.

;)

Well, dug out another Op. 20, but this time with The Vienna Chamber Ensemble from this set:

I have to say that I am enjoying this one much more so than the Academy.  Just lighter at points and seems to come across with less struggle.  The sound is also superior IMO.
There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Florestan

I dare even the wildest imagination to find "deep thought" and "personal utterances" in this music. Actually, its childlike innocence, purity and serenity would make any such attempt look like a rape...   ;D

Highly recommended for Baroque buffs.  :)

I discovered him by the first Naxos CD with some of his works, this is actually the second in the series. I get to appreciate him more, with every listen. You can Google quite some info about him.

Cortot plays Chopin:

Oh yes! One of the best performances of op. 53. Might not be to everyone's liking, though.

Though I will not do away with the Mozartean Players (HM), if asked for a top rec. by anyeone who is into period performances (others might prefer the Mozartean Players), this one would definitely be it! :)

A sparkling performance, full of interesting nuances.
