Truscott: Suite - Elegy for Strings - Symphony
Dutilleux: Symphony no. 2
Tippett: Concerto for Double String Orchestra

A fine assembly of composers to start with.
Truscott, know little of him, what do you think about him?
Dutilleux, which performers?
Tippett, a quite disturbing composer at time! Which performance?

Fighting with the person you love is needlessly exhausting. However, I have noticed that love is ultimately worth both sticking around and fighting for.

Those whom persevere at all costs recieve their just reward, don't they Harry?

Best Sunday Morning Blesses I wish to all.

But do not confuse it with fighting against love my friend! :)
"Nil Volentibus Arduum" should be your motto from now on! It fits perfectly to the second sentence of persevere!

The below OOP disc from the library including Chopin's Cello Sonata in G minor, Op. 65
(Argerich, Rostropovich), Polonaise brillante for cello & piano in C major, Op. 3 (Argerich, Rostropovich), Ballade No. 3 and No. 4 (Richter). Especially I liked the Polonaise brillante and the Ballades played by Richter.

I don't know much about Truscott either. Yesterday I received this Marco Polo cd in the mail. His Elegy is beautiful. All in all this is a pretty good cd I think. National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland, cond. Gary Brain

The Dutilleux is the one from the Chandos box (4 cd's) Complete Orchestral Works, Yan Pascal Tortelier with the BBC Philharmonic.

Tippett: Neville Marriner with the ASMF, Decca, The British Music Collection. I love this music!

If I look at the Marco Polo label, I see so many of them which I would like to have,.........it makes me dizzy. There is so much to listen.
Tortelier is a first choice, very good.
The Marriner I don't know, but then one can't know all! ;D
Tippett, I grow in very slowly, at times he is fascinating, and disturbing at the same time. Have not much of him yet.
The Lloyd Symphonies are fascinating by the way, I have gone through them all once, but need to do that several times, before I can pass judgement, but hey I already like them very much. Sampled the chambermusic from Arnold a bit, very good it is.

Netherlands Philharmonic, Haenchen conducting.

Alexandra Coku is the soprano, Martinova on solo violin. Very good recording and performance, the 4th movement knocks me out with its beauty.

Great recording. Since I got it (about my sixth Mahler 4) I've never felt the need to look for another.

Mostly minor Nielsen, but idiomatically performed.

Well, now I'm curious in regard to the Szell (often an astounding conductor!).

Edward, you might really like the soprano on this one (plus mega-cheap!):

It was on a budget disc "Essenetial Classics," so I suggest scouring your local used and Barnes and Noble, Borders stores. You never know...
