It's taller and more athletic!

My high school PE class decided it would be a good idea for me to play QB on a single trick play where I was supposed to throw a Hail Mary pass. Why they thought this, the world will never know. It did not work.

I think the idea came from your ex-girlfriend Mary...

You know, I don't think we ever did football in high school PE. I would imagine that it would be too complicated to explain to people like me, who have no idea what they are doing.
Beethoven's Op. 133 -- A fugue so bad that even Beethoven himself called it "Grosse".

I've only ever met one forum member face to face on any forum, he joined GMG but he hasn't posted much really. Hopefully he'll come back!

I believe Brian meant his remark as a compliment. I know I did.

Hey, Nate, if you guys are doing Turangalila in March, maybe count me in. As Boulez says, it's brothel music, but I'm not proud.

And since I know you like Jeux, you should know that the NYC Ballet is mounting a new choreography of that work for five remaining performances this February, all with the above-mentioned Sara Mearns. I'm thinking about the Feb. 20 matinee.

Unfortunately (if high school PE has taught me anything about myself) I am also probably the GMGer most likely to run away and duck from a football being passed to me.

Maybe the second.

Haha, I figured that you guys seem too nice to mean it as an insult.

It's the best brothel music around, though!

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make that one. Actually, the Monday after Turangalila is being played I might go home to DC and see Jeux at the Kennedy Center (I forgot which orchestra is playing it; not the NSO).

I'm always afraid I'm being insulted when I'm told I have the physique of an athlete.  ::)

Not sure why sfz thought I might take it as an insult, lol. I was joking around when I asked what was better. Truth is, I have no idea what either position does. I know nothing about football :-[.

While we are on that topic, what about sumo wrestler? That could be kind of insulting... Or even powerlifter could be taken the wrong way (reputation for being, well, fat).

Well you did ask whether it was better or worse - it's not hard to think from that that you might think at least one of them is not all that great to be associated with.

Ah, sumo wrestlers - yes, that would be an insult to most people, definitely, just as any crazy extreme physique that isn't necessarily healthy at all but helps in a particular sport.

Probably this one:
Montreal Symphony
Kent Nagano, conductor
Daniil Trifonov, piano

Mon, Mar 14, 7pm • Kennedy Center Concert Hall
DEBUSSY - Jeux
PROKOFIEV - Piano Concerto No. 3
STRAVINSKY - The Rite of Spring

- which is several weeks after the date I quoted for the NYCB.

You know what is said about brothels: one is ashamed to be caught entering or leaving the brothel, but inside it one actually feels good.

Perhaps you have more experience than I in that area.

I have read Maison Tellier and An American Tragedy. Does it count?

I have only read American Tragedy, so you're one up on me.

So, now you have Jane Austen, Tolstoy, Conrad and Maupassant on your list...  :D

Making lists is the easy part. Following through is hard.

When I was very young, like 13 or so, and still under the delusion that I'd become a famous composer some day, I made a long list of all the compositions I planned to write. I included titles, orchestration, keys (as I said, I was very young), and even dedications (to anybody and everybody I could think of, including the janitor at my school and the local librarian). The only problem was that I would have to write the actual music, and that was much more effort than I intended. So nothing on the list ever got written.

Believe it or not, but...

...except the delusion and the dedications, me too. The last opus on my list (I still have it somewhere at my parents´ home) is a Symphony in 4 movements: I- Death, II-Death, III-Death, IV-Life. Now, why on earth a 14-year Romanian boy in the 80s of the last century would have composed such a thing beats me; it must have been right after listening to Mahler´s 9th with Vaclav Neuman and the Czech PO ((a gift from one of my father´s best friends)...
