Do you guys have a method to your madness?

Heh.

Sometimes I feel I need a plan for purchasing recordings, otherwise it seems as though I'm attempting to purchase every CD in the universe--just like Harry. ;) And, for me, that's not a good feeling. I'd like to think there will be a time when I can stop and be happy with what I've accumulated over the years. Do you worry about this at all? Do you restrict yourself in some way from buying everything that catches your eye/ear?

I don't buy much, I spend more time listening.

Yeah, that's the best way, I think. What prompts you to buy a new recording?

Due to financial limitations, I only put "must have" recordings on my wish list.

What makes them "must have?" A piece you've not heard before?

Nothing really to do with whether I've heard a piece before.

The following tend to be "must-have":

Any recording of Bach organ and keyboard music (especially Goldbergs and WTC)
Wellesz
Miaskovsky
Scriabin solo piano
Schumann solo piano
Dvorak chamber music
Handel keyboard suites
Shostakovich chamber and solo piano
Mahler/Bruckner symphonies
Bax
Chopin preludes
Gouvy
Janacek string quartets
Medtner
Debussy/Ravel string quartets
Faure chamber
Martinu symphonies
Weinberg
Zemlinsky
Reger chamber
Taneyev
Aho

There's likely a few more that I can't recall at the moment.  Also, the list changes some over time;  Aho was added a few months ago based on loving what I heard on the Naxos Music Library.

Nope, that would require too much thinking.

I'm tempted to restrict myself to chamber pieces (four instruments or less) I don't own yet. One decent recording each. Still, that's a ton of recordings--I think. Even if I stick to the Baroque through Romatic eras.

Sounds like you have a long-range plan.  If you think of it as long-term, I have every confidence you will accomplish the mission (better than Bush).

Thanks. I will do my best, sir! :)

It's a nice, short one.

I simply buy all what I like, that's the way of the least resistance! ;D

That's not "madness". My wishlist is about 10 times longer and that starts to be anxious.  >:D
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Always seems too long to me.

Well, I suppose if you keep adding to it.

My wish list just got longer - the idea of Russell Sherman playing Debussy is most interesting.  That's why I enjoy this forum - all those recordings that could've got away . . .
