Prepare for some excellent football commercials! :D
Can anything stop the New England Videotapes in their quest for world domination?
My prediction: well, obviously, the Patriots are going to win. They're better in every way. They'll get their perfect season and the rest of America will be hearing about it for months. The Giants really don't stand a chance. Nevertheless, because I am a sentimental idiot, I'm going to say Giants by 2 (NY 30, NE 28). This way, if I'm wrong and the Patriots win, then I'll be able to say that I knew it was going to happen, and if the Giants pull off an upset, I'll be able to say I predicted it. ;D
This prediction is also borne out of sentimentality, an awful lot of wishful thinking, and anger at the fact that Indianapolis isn't playing. Oh wouldn't it be nice for the goofy New Yorkers to pull off the upset of the century?
What do you suppose is going to happen?
- - -
Q1 - NE 7, NYG 6
Q2 - NE 14, NYG 13
Q3 - NYG 23, NE 21
Q4 - NYG 30, NE 28 (comeback final drive capped by game-winning FG)
The Jets didn't make it :(. I'll pass.
hahaha giants win.
PRESENTING THE NEW YORK GIANTS!!!!!
Hooray for Eli! Daddy now has two superbowl champs and I'm sure that makes up for his ring-less fingers! :)

No LIVE coverage here in Beijing, but I guess I will see it tonight. It will be an instructional course for Vanessa and our baby on American Football. The final drive will be textbook material!

The final drive gave me about 6 heart attacks. ;D ;D That was one of the most exhilarating moments ... just ... wow ... wow.
I'm ecstatic that the football season is now OVER.
Since I believe that only BASEBALL deserves continuing interest (especially the NY Mets), as far as I'm concerned the baseball season has now started. It's about time.
Did some grossly overpaid celebrity's titty "accidently" slip out of her bra this time? ::)

NL East 2008
1. Mets (90+ wins)
2. Nationals (85ish wins)
3. Phillies (85ish wins)
4. Braves (80 wins)
5. Marlins (70 wins)

I agree with your prognostications for first and last place. But I also think that both the Phillies and the Braves will finish ahead of the Nationals.

First and last are easy enough. But I think the Phils, whose additions of Jenkins, Feliz and Lidge are uninspiring to say the least, will be right in the mix with the consistently strong Braves and rising young Nationals (with a new core of hitting talent). For Washington the problem is pitching, but I think this will be a pleasant surprise indeed. As indicated my predictions for 2 and 3 could easily be switched - all three middle teams will probably finish within a handful games of each other...

The Mets did well by signing Santana. I wish the Red Sox had gotten him, but since they didn't, I'm glad he's now in the National League.
The best part about the Giants' win: looking at Belaschek and Randy Moss' expressions. Two guys nobody in America can root for.
I was really happy to see Tom Brady face so much pressure from the swarming Giants defence. Hmmm, Brady looks average to me when he has pressure on him. :D
Happy for Michael Strahan. :)
I wanted the Giants to win, although a small part of me hoped the Pats would win so that the damn '72 Dolphins would stop sucking on champagne bottles. ::)

From the Cleveland Leader:
Gisele Bündchen Takes Back Her Promise to Run Through Manhattan Naked
Supermodel Gisele Bündchen, the girlfriend of New England Patriots' quarterback Tom Brady, had previously said, "If the Pats lose, I'll run naked through Mid-Town Manhattan."
Of course now that the Patriots have indeed lost, Gisele is trying to renege on her promise.According to CBS Sports, she's backing down not because of a fear of being naked in public, but rather, the logistics of such a stunt.
"It was a mistake and I'm sorry I said it. I don't know what I could have been thinking -- Midtown Manhattan is a parking lot any time of day or night. It'd take 30 minutes just to make it from the Theater District to 34th Street. And what if I ran into the Naked Cowboy and had to pose for pictures with every out-of-town Tom, Dick and Harry? Tack on another 30 minutes, easily. How 'bout I simply flashed my breasts from a billboard in Times Square and call it a day ... will that work?"
Remember this for the future: don't make a bet with Gisele because she doesn't pay up!
Sarge
What a whiner. A promise is a promise, and she should have known what she was saying when she said it.
That said, a well-lit block or two would be fine. ;D
Who ya got?
Hawks or Broncos? 8)
Me: Broncos - 31, Seahawks - 17
My four year old son: Seahawks - 12, Broncos - 7 (he just likes the Seahawks logo better, but he's adamant about them winning.)
I'm pulling for the Seahawks, which is the underdog team here for sure as this is the second time they've been to the Super Bowl. Plus, I just want to see Peyton Manning cry like a baby if they lose. :)
This game depresses me.

I haven't watched a play in the second half. All I know is that at least my NY Jets didn't embarrass themselves at this Super Bowl like this. ;D

I'm not a football fan. This was a shitty game. The first quarter was amusingly weird, but after that it was boring, lopsided, and pointless. Not even the touchdowns were interesting, except Percy Harvin's electric return. The highlight was the botched initial coin toss. And I really don't understand your antagonism toward the smartest, best quarterback of all time (even though he didn't look even halfway decent tonight).

I just don't like Manning. I saw a pre-game interview with and he was cocky as hell. I loved every minute of the game because Denver lost and were playing some horrible football. I'd be embarrassed too. I'll always root for the underdog team and all the odds were against Seattle tonight and I'm just glad things went in their favor. They deserved it.
But the highlight of the night for me wasn't even the game, it was watching the game with my dad. We're both not big sports fans but, again, it's the whole underdog scenario that we love.
BTW, it was a boring game because Denver weren't even playing at their usual high standard, which really doesn't make for anything entertaining. One of the most important lessons here is one team should never underestimate the other team. Both teams were excellent or they wouldn't be in the Super Bowl. I just don't think Denver where in the right frame of mind the whole night.
Also, those commercials were just lame. I mean really, really lame. The best one, for me, was U2 and that's just because I like their music. 8) Oh and I muted the half-time show. Absolutely pathetic, but most half-time shows are anyway.
Actually, I liked Bruno Mars at the halftime show. Good show, not bad songs. (Although I think I heard a lyric that sounded like, "I'll always think you're pretty cuz you're amazing," which reminded me of my general policy to never, ever listen to the lyrics of pop songs I enjoy.) My favorite part of the whole thing was the botched coin flip at the start - hilarious.
I missed the 'botched' coin toss, but it doesn't matter to me anymore. The Super Bowl is over with and so I'm done. Now, back to my regularly scheduled programming.
Denver's performance apparently shows the dangers of Colorado's flirtation with legalizing marijuana. 8) 8) 8) 8)

I enjoyed the game. It's always a pleasure to watch an exceptional team (Seattle) do its thing. As for Denver, they were very entertaining with all their goofs.
Although both teams reside in the two States that have legalized recreational sale/use of pot, it might have been only the Denver players who stoked up before the game. It sure looked like Denver's center didn't know what was going on.

Well, I was certainly glad to see the Broncos clean Panthers' clocks for Super Bowl L. Peyton Manning's last game I'm sure. The Panthers were really sore losers post-game. I believe Cam Newton even walked out of a press conference. Is this the way the MVP is supposed act? Anyway, a great game and there's one thing that Panthers continued to do throughout the night that cost them the game: they underestimated the Broncos' defense.

Yes! The Broncos defense won that game for them as far as I'm concerned. Manning played decent, but well enough to make some good passes. Loved watching the cocky Panthers go home. They really were some sore losers as their quarterback Cam Newton got up in the middle of an interview and walked out. Yeah, really fine way for the league's MVP to act.
Boring game with sloppy play. Incredible defense, certainly, but not very fun to watch in general. Commercials were not that good. Bruno Mars and Beyonce saved the tepid Coldplay show. Lady Gaga absolutely knocked the anthem out of the park, though.

You must not be a fan of singing, John. Thousands aren't, no shame in it. I never thought I would actually say something nice about anyone who calls herself Gaga, but her voice is tremendous (last year at the Oscars, she equaled Julie Andrews in the
Sound of Music bit). She did better with the Anthem than almost anyone I have ever heard do it, and at 64 years old, I have heard a few! She could have made it easily as a serious vocalist, maybe she just realized the money was in pop, I don't know... :-\

No it's not. Your reaction may be subjective, but the fact that she was brilliant is anything but.

One can be a fan of singing and doesn't have to like Gaga in the process of course. There are thousands of great vocalists, but this doesn't mean I like all of them. The very nature of subjectivity means that a performance or a piece of art is completely wide-open to criticism and the main one I have against her goes to the fact that I prefer to have our National Anthem sung straight without the vocal pyrotechnics, but it's not like I like our National Anthem to begin with. :) Oh, how unpatriotic of me. I'm such a commie....lol. :P

Out of Lady Gaga's entire oeuvre (if I may call it such), I only like one song a lot: "Love Game."

Her collaborations with Tony Bennett seem to have produced a big effect - now Gaga has evolved into a more soulful singer, relying less on electronics and elaborate production. There's an almost jazzy or gospel quality; John probably wouldn't like to hear Nina Simone sing the anthem, either.
By the way, at my Super Bowl party, the only better anthem we could think of was Whitney Houston's. (starts after 1:00)

What I am saying is that you liking it or not is subjective. Whether she sang it very well indeed is not subjective, it is a fact, based on the generally accepted definition of what singing well is. I know what you mean about great vocalists not doing something well, opera signing singing Lieder is a fine example of it. But in this case, I really do feel that your dislike of her (for whatever reason) is tainting your judgement. I will toss Roseanne Barr into the ring of Anthems you should deplore. :D

Thankfully, I don't subscribe to what universally accepting singing is nor do I remotely care. :) I can make up my own mind about whether it's good or not. My judgement is only tainted by my general dislike of 1. her own voice and 2. how she sung the Anthem. But, like I said, I don't like our National Anthem to begin with so she didn't ruin it that much for me. Roseanne Barr, however, could ruin anything. That's pretty obvious. ;)

Vanessa got up and watched her first NFL game. For that purpose, it is an excellent game with a bit of everything and good coaching, excellent play and especially on-field decision-making by the Broncos. It took Vanessa less than half of the the first quarter to understand the game and from then on, she was a Broncos fan. She was so nervous in the fourth quarter but ecstatic in the end.
I hope she can go to a game (maybe college game) next time she's in the US.
