I usually have no time for Naxos box sets, as they usually (except for their now extinct "White boxes") just repackage the individual jewel cases with a slipcase and therefore take up too much space. Same as CPO.

Okay, but that doesn't really have much to do with whether something's a bargain or not.

I wasn't really questioning whether it was a bargain or not, although, now we speak of it, it's not a bargain on the "50 CDs for 30 euros" range. The smaller box sets are usually less of a bargain, comparatively speaking, than one of the "monsters" when their price finally goes down.

JPC de has the label Querstand in the picture today. 20 titles for just 9,99€. I cannot remember seeing this label discounted in price, so it's quite rare.
Enjoy.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

159 titles from the label Divine Art at JPC de for budget prices. There are really fine recordings in this list, Enjoy!

Some choice morsels indeed! Thanks for those alerts, Harry!

I recommend Henri Rabaud's delightful "oriental" opera Mârouf, savetier du Caire. Practically impossible to find. And of course, Alain Vanzo's superlative Pêcheurs de perles.

Great price, but be aware that all the documentation would be in German only.

For me luckily that is no problem, but as I am aware and am told by JPC, there is a English translation.
But one should always be careful with this kind of info. I have been deceived on more than one occasion in this respect.

Since I own one of these boxes I can say with some confidence that they are produced in three separate versions, one in English, one in German, and one in French (with only the one language in each). The books would have become too unwieldy with all three since they provide much more information than is usually the case with CD boxes. The boxes of course are marvellous, and I have worked my way through to cd 175 by now with great pleasure and edification. With this particular offer coming from from a German seller I would be very surprised if it would be in English.

For anyone who missed it during previous sales, JPC has it at 50% off right now:

I bought this set some time ago, but I see it's still on sale at a ridiculously low price:

This duplicates the contents of  a previous EMI compilation, but adds 2 discs of previously never issued performances from the 1930s. The sound on the latter is astonishingly open and clear.

Note that Beecham's famous recording of Mass of Life is not included. It is available separately, though.

Jump on this: 25€ for 40 discs of prime Wagner.

Not everything is there but there are some treasurable performances here (the best Lohengrin ever IMHO) and many fascinating recitals

Hmm...with Konya you may be on to something, there. Time for some YouTube...
Veit Bach-a baker who found his greatest pleasure in a little cittern which he took with him even into the mill and played while the grinding was going on. In this way he had a chance to have the rhythm drilled into him. And this was the beginning of a musical inclination in his descendants. JS Bach
