Forgot to mention that I do have 2 non-classical cds:

I have perhaps 350 non-classical CDs. Mostly electric dance music (acid house, house, rave, techno, darkside, drum 'n' bass, breakz, jungle, breakbeat, neurofunk, speed garage, hard dance, trance, idm,...). The rest of the CDs are new age, movie soundtracks, pop, soft rock, world music and other stuff that doesn't fall into any category.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Two suggestions:

1.  Find some classical buddies who buy big-time.
2.  Become a reviewer and get paid in plastic.

Hmmmmmmmmm noted! ;)

I am amazed at all these pop terms, well.......drum n' bass, whatever that may be, breakz???? neurofunk, I give up on the youngsters. ;)

I have almost 1800, but that's nothing compared to a friend of mine who used to post on these boards, and is still registered I think.

He has round about the same as Don, and a vinyl collection of over 21,000

Imagine having to flip 21,000 vinyl discs.  Perish the thought.

All Hail the cd  ;D

I have an estimated 1400 Cd's.

Of course  ;D

Most of his vinyls were inherited from his father and many are very rare.  Including Schellac and those vinyls at 180grams and beyond, the ones where you need a Schwarzenegger Right Arm to lift them.

I have about 300+ vinyls, many not released on cd yet, but what a chore to play them and keep them clean.

Still, they are beautiful to play, touch, hold and admire  ;D  Even if its only once or twice a year (binge playing)

Vanessa wanted my beautiful LPs mounted on the wall in our new house as decoration. I wouldn't say I vetoed the idea, maybe just postponed.

They are underground terms.  ;D

Drum n' bass is a fast (140-160 beats per minute) genre of  electronic dance music with dominating drums (lots of snare drum!) and loud bass sound. It developped from jungle around 1994-5. Jungle developped from the combination of darkside and hardcore ragga in 1993-4. Darkside developped from Breakbeat in 1993. Hardcore ragga developped from dancehall reggae and rap around 1991. Breakbeat developped from hardcore rave, reggae and rap in 1991 etc..........

You don't believe how much happened in electric dance music between 1988-1995! Those years where amazing!

Here is a good guide to these genres (I don't agree 100 % with all definitions thou).

That a hefty kind of site my friend, and if I want to know, this is the site to go, so I will if the wine works within me.
Amazing it is, did not know that that sort of sounds existed. ;D

Where d'yall get money for thousands of CD"s?
My CD's are barely in the hundreds, though I have lots of scores and books on music, plus tapes and quite a large vinyl collection and a few old 78's.

And that's wonderful also! :)

I guess around 500, and there's somewhere between 500-1000 that I've sold.

Sadly for books I only have a few books on Beethoven and that's it.  I was thinking about seeing if there are any interesting biographies in the public library to read.

Here is a question-- which do you attain more satisfaction from: your cd collection or reading material related to classical music?

And while we're on the topic, since ZB mentioned it-- how many books do you have on music? :)

I have between 4,500 and 5,000. I keep thinking I am slowing down....but the Internet is just too easy. I hardly bother with shops any more.

Day before yesterday I went through the bargains in Amazon and I ordered John Lill in all five Beethoven piano concerti + Choral Fantasia, Karajan conducting Boris Godunov and Verdi Requiem + 4 sacred pieces, the Decca Solti version......all for less than £25 for nine CDs...I saved LOADS of money.

I also buy second hand and mainly only buy if the price is right.

DavidW: Yeah Mike doesn't get angry, he gets even.
I wasted time: and time wasted me.

Well, they are different spheres of satisfaction, hard to weigh the two.

And, in any event, the two media inform, and interact with, one another.

Except for storage space, so books are just about everywhere.
