Yes indeed, Karl. Listening to the Funeral Odes now, and this is no less nice. 8)

Earlier today, some more for First-listen Friday

Dohnányi, Schoenberg, Martinů
String Trios
The Leopold String Trio

First time I hear any of these works in their entirety as far as I recall, and what a striking collection they make. Dohnányi is a composer I've not heard before, but the Serenade is a beauty. Schönberg's late masterpiece makes for a startling contrast, and the Martinů is a good finish. The musicianship of the Leopolds, and the recording, are as good as it gets.

Saint-Saëns
Piano Quintet, Op. 14
Oboe Sonata, Op. 166
Clarinet Sonata, Op. 167
Caprice sur des airs danois et russes, Op. 79
The Nash Ensemble

Pure delight.

What a delightful way to start one's day  8)

Well, I suspect Brahms' 2nd this morning will be even more breakfast-appropriate.
Nobody has to apologise for using their brain.

I definitely consider the Brahms D Major Symphony excellent breakfast fare.

Also excellent as lunch, dinner/supper, and bedtime snack fare.

CD 4:  Symphony 6 and Cello Concerto

Distinctly underwhelmed by this set. Might be me as much as the music, although this symphony (subtitled From a New Zealand Diary, is coming across better.

Hard to believe for sure!

Recent listening:

P & F's #1-12

Like this recording despite the tinny sound (it improves a lot on the recording of Book #2).

Next:

Ending the evening with this gimmicky recording

The performance is good, the sonics excellent, but it seems like a 55 minute advertisement for this
https://www.steinway.com/buy-spirio

Ms Han recorded the music onto Spirio 1 on three different days during the period November 2015 through February 2016.  The result was played back through Spirio 2 on November 1, 2016, and that playback was recorded in the normal way to produce this recording. So the piano heard in the recording is not the piano on which Ms. Han recorded the music...

A nice performance (2016 diapason d'or, choc classica) which leans more toward the classical than the romantic period.

One always finds gems in these live from Lugano discs. On this one,  Milhaud "La creation du Monde" played by a piano quintet, is an altogether new piece of music compared to the orchestral version

That is what I appreciate from an artist: make me discover or rediscover a composition.
