I'd read that this was a return to Schulze's classic 70s sound. To my ears it sounds nothing like his classic 70s sound! It reminded me more of a World Music/Enigma sound with its dance rhythms and vocal chants. VERY disappointing.  :(

Watching the DVD's by Sigur Ros :

The set is in 2 parts :

- one documentary on their Iceland tour (1h), and explaining their reason of a free unannounced tour of their home country, and the choices of the various locations (village halls, churches, etc..). Includes musicals excerpts of the tour.

- the 2nd DVD is the music tracks themsleves in full (2h), but still with lots of scenery shots, etc...so not radically different in that respect from the 1st DVD one.

That set offers a very refreshing approach into their world, and seeing it performed "in situ" makes you appreciate the music to an event greater extent. It covers tracks from all their albums : "Rimur", "Von", " ( ) " , "Agaetis Byrjun" etc...up to "Takk". If you are a fan of the group already, you owe it to yourselves to get it, period.  If you have never heard them or of them, consider giving it an abjective try (or some of their albums), and judge for yourselves : that may well possibly leave you stone-cold because it is a bit on the "special" side (think mostly of a mixture of post-rock and acoustic tracks, with a  made-up language), but, if you are caught off guard by it, and lucky to get that tingle on the right nerves, you will be definitely in for a superb journey, with a fantastic sound to boot !

There will never be another era like the Golden Age of Hollywood.  We didn't know how to blow up buildings then so we had no choice but to tell great stories with great characters.-Ben Mankiewicz

Last week or so, we've been watching (and listening) to Great American Music: Broadway Musicals w/  Bill Messenger from The Peabody Institute of Music in Baltimore - this is an offering from the Teaching Company (16 lectures, 45 mins each, and @ a great bargain price currently) - if you have ANY interest in the origins & development of popular American music from the late 19th into the 20th century, this is an absolute MUST!  Messenger is a popular pianist from Baltimore (voted the city's best, in fact for this genre) - excellent teacher & performer - wonderful DVD set - about half way through the DVDs! Highly recommended for those interested in this era -  :D

Ha. I'm listening to this stuff on my iPod, then one of Arrau's Chopin nocturnes sneaks in.
