Cato

Let's get The Rach into the game!

Rachmaninoff -
Etudex-Tableaux op. 39 (3)

I am really surprised by the lack of Scriabin votes!

How about the work Vladimir Horowitz (according to notes to a recording) described as an atomic bomb?  :o

Scriabin:
Vers la Flamme
"Meet Miss Ruth Sherwood, from Columbus, Ohio, the Middle of the Universe!"

- Brian Aherne introducing Rosalind Russell in  My Sister Eileen (1942)

Schubert Impromptus D899
Rachmaninov - Etudes-tableaux Op 39
Be kind to your fellow posters!!

Schubert Impromptus D899
Rachmaninov - Etudes-tableaux Op 39

You don't need to vote for the Rach, Cato already pushed it over the line. You can pick something else instead.
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

I think the difficulty with certain composers is that they, as it were, spread their own votes. Do I think Scriabin is an important piano composer? Absolutely. Can I identify a particular Scriabin piece to champion? That's harder. I know a couple have been nominated now, but I don't look at them and immediately think oh gosh, yes, that's a work that needs to be in there.

I think Brahms is another who suffers from this problem. I think the later piano works, in particular, are extremely fine, but even the last period of composition produced 20 smaller-scale pieces grouped into 4 opuses. I still haven't figured out which one of those opuses to nominate.

I agree with ørfeo.......I love Scriabin's piano works but I find it immensely difficult to pick a certain piece. Should his 9th sonata end up in the voting rounds I will certainly support it, but currently I would rather nominate compositions in particular of which I am particularly fond.

Last night I was listening to the late Brahms works for this same reason.  Instead I opted to do this:

Cage - Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano (3)

Madiel

As is your right.

But you do have 2 votes, so... you could use the other one for Brahms.

I know; but (and as I agreed with you), I couldn't decide which of Op. 116-119 to nominate and didn't want to just add yet another new work.  At this point in the game I want to advance another work and get closer to the voting round.

But I might as well use my second vote for this: Brahms - Variations and Fugue on a theme by Händel, op. 24 (3) which accomplishes both goals.

;)

ComposerOfAvantGarde

Rzewski - The People United Will Never Be Defeated!
Webern - Variations op. 27

Cage Prepared Piano
Prokofiev 7

A few votes before yours I already had advanced the Cage work; Sammy just hasn't updated the board yet.  You might want to use your vote to advance a different work.
