Xenakis

I just listened to Persephassa (1966) with the same ensemble and it was not at all bad so I purchased this CD]  :)

Holy Xenakis, Batman! Xenakis is a fascinating composer that I can only take in small doses as his music is like an aural assault on the eardrums, but I highly recommend the Timpani box set of orchestral works (if you can find it).

You're welcome! Of course, I believe Tamayo's Xenakis series can still be purchased individually if you can't find the box set.

Oh, wait...

I'm not sure what the shipping costs would be to the Netherlands, but it looks like one is available via Amazon US:

[asin]B002USOVSC[/asin]

Edit: This box set is quite a rarity now as it's out-of-print, so if you're at all interested in this composer (and what fan of post-WWII avant-garde music wouldn't be?), then do pounce on it while there's still one left.

It is a Debussy year after all! Pre-ordered...

Heck, this is great. If only Alien were still on here! He knows these pieces better than I do and I'm pretty sure he has a lot of good stuff to say about Tamayo's recordings.

Are you thinking of getting it, Traverso?

I have no visa card or other and I'm afraid that I have to pay for import duties.I have also found one in my country but I don't like to pay 175 euro for it.

Yikes! Yeah, don't even bother then. ;) Too expensive.

In fact I do,I like to to broaden my horizon if it is not too costly.  ;)

That is good news as well as high praise, André! It is hard to make it into the purchase of the year tier.  :)    I sampled the music and found her voice enchanting so I simply had to get the full recordings.  Besides, the review on MusicWeb was glowing with praise: http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2018/Jan/Crespin_tribute_9029588671.htm

Perhaps...I've been looking at this ongoing Scelsi series for several years now, but finally just decided it was time to take the plunge. No avatar change. I'll leave Schnittke up for awhile.

Thanks for the link, Moonfish ! I had not read it before. My favourite aria of the whole set appears twice (2 different recordings of course): Sapho's heart-rending farewell to life, Ô ma lyre immortelle.

Ah, looking forward to listening to her! So you are a Gounod fan, André?
