Yes.  Just located your set at Arkivmusic ($23).   DG has these recordings for $77 at Arkiv music.

Here is the cover and the link:

I have been considering this mono set (which Don reccomends as well) for some time now as I truly enjoy his stereo cycle here: http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=17994.  However, the high price tag of the DG mono set has kept me at bay.  Would very much appreciate your comments concerning the sound of your Documents set when you get a chance.  An IM would be appreciated so I do not miss it.  At $17 though, I am guessing you cannot go wrong.
If Documents are adopting their usual procedures, their set will be the DG set passed through a few filters and probably with some extra reverb.

I won't be able to compare, so I probably won't know the difference. And like I said: $17, so who cares? :)

No comparison necessary....just want to know if they are decent listening.  8)

I'll let you know what I think, Bogey. It may be a little while though because I also bought these 10-CD sets from Documents today and yesterday:

Schnabel - Beethoven
Swing Time (swing music)
A blues collection
An R&B collection (the good '40s stuff)
Boogie Woogie

Some CD's arrived in my mailbox today :). The Melodiya CD is Rozhdestvensky's recording of the Nutcracker.

rubio, I would be very interested what you make of it vs the Svetlanov recording.  :)

I will report, Que. I'm generally a big fan of Rozhdestvensky as a conductor. This will be interesting.

Knowing the DG set as well as the Document set, I can confirm, that you are right. I wouldn´t call the addition reverberation though, rather ambience. The Document set was probably made using the original LP releases, but it constitutes full value for money, and some ( not me ) may even think it is better than the DG edition, as the acoustics of the original recording is unnatural dry.

Thanks for this, premont. I sampled this earlier and it sounds mighty fine to me.

The grand total including shipping for the two sets is a tad over $160. I know, not the cheapest in the world but much better than paying $185 EACH from the Philharmonic store and I don't think the recordings are available elsewhere. Plus I am DYING to hear Lenny's live Bruckner 6th.

I guess I didn't have to fork over TOO much considering I got about $90 for selling the Kempe Ring Cycle.

Yes, this was from HMV Japan. I have heard the 1st and the 3rd from this set already, and I must say that Giulini and the WP forms a splendid team. I also have some of his LAPO recordings, but it's a long time since I listened to them. I just remember that I liked them. I think these readings from Vienna are a bit slower, and the orchestral playing is just excellent.

I collected these one by one. The 4th was available on DG Gold Masters or whatever that was called, and the other ones I found on DG Galleria in a record store in Rome. Took me a while, but was worth it. These are outstanding performances, if a little on the slow side, but both very lyrical and dramatic. Giulini holds the long line  even at these slower tempi, and the WP fill the line with great and sonorous playing. Are the Haydn-Variationen and Tragische Ouvertüre included in this set, BTW?
