The mix is 2 & 5 in the big box.  A curiously satisfying cycle.  I think I may explore more Vladar recordings.

Erkki Salmenhaara - Symphony No. 4 - RSO / Ulf Söderblom - Spotify

At least the first listen didn't blow me away. The music sounds "modern Sibelius" with Debussian fluidity. The music sounds incidental rather than symphonic.

The last track on Spotify contains "clicks" from reading errors of the CD. I hope the CDs people here are buying from Fuga work and this is just one faulty dics (fingerprint?) The disc is 79 minutes long so the last track is very near the outer edge of the disc. Fingerprints can be a problem with track 10.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.

It has been entertaining to watch vandermolen and Harry order music of Erkki Salmenhaara from Fuga.fi. It's as if they ordered stuff from Mars.  ;D

Well there is a simple reason for all this Poju, this CD is not to be had, neither on JPC de, Amazon Germany or England. The CD seems to be OOP.
And yes Finland is almost on Mars for most Europeans, I mean take the language for instance......

I have this disc of 4 & 5. Should give it another spin someday...  :P

Some Fauré chamber music: the Piano Trio in D minor, op. 120 (Renaud and Gautier Capuçon--violin and cello, respectively--, and Nicholas Angelich--piano--) and the String Quartet in E minor, op. 121 (Quatuor Ébène).

A worthy close of this set. Recommended.

It's been a very complex logistical operation 71dB and took my best negotiating skills to clinch the Salmenhaara deal at a special rate. Apart from getting the gender of the Fuga proprietor wrong it all went like clockwork.
;D

Is Fuga well known in Finland?

Good afternoon all,

Continuing with Ibert today.

Following your postings and the enthusiasm of Lol (Irons) I thought that I should listen to 'Symphonie Marine' - which I liked very much. It's quite a short work and I listened to it three times in a row. It's quite a dreamy and haunting work, with that melancholy saxophone. It's certainly my favourite work by Ibert. I've owned this CD for at least a couple of years but it was still in its cellophane wrapper  ::)

Brilliant, Jeffrey. There is something about saxophone..... Rachmaninov Symphonic Dances too. :)

Just finished:

Maurice Ravel: Le Tombeau de Couperin, Prélude, Menuet sur le nom d'Haydn, À la manière de... Pascal Rogé

Now:

Johann Sebastian Bach: Italian Concerto in F major, BWV 971. Sviatoslav Richter

So much great music, so little time... This latter disc was a random $2 find at a place called Half Price Books in Decatur, GA, one of many amazing, rare classical finds for reasonable prices. I believe they have them in plenty of other cities too (I know they're based out of Dallas) so if you're reading this and you live in the US, see if there's one near you. But I digress. This is a brilliant, revelatory performance like so much of Richter's Bach.
Love that Rogé set!  :)

Thanks Que for posting that first recording above of Johann Schmelzer - although I know the name, my collection has nothing of this famous early/middle Baroque Viennese violinist and composer - court musician under Leopold I and a brief turn as Kapellmeister before dying from the 1680 plague (short edited synopsis below from the link).

SO, decided to put together a Spotify playlist of the 5 recordings shown above - there were many to choose from and I picked those w/ performers that I own and enjoy - over 6 hours of music - should give me a 'handle' on this guy!  8)  Dave

Sounds like a great listening journey, Dave! :)

That's a powerful work that I like very much - especially the moving Bach quotation.

How was it complex? The language barrier I suppose, but what else? Do you always "negotiate" deals with online stores? It's good to hear it's all working out in the end.

Fuga is well know among fans of classical music in Finland, at least here in Helsinki. They started in 1960 and it was an important place for me to shop classical music in the beginning (late 90's and early 00's), but my shopping has gone totally online and I haven't even been to their current store (closed because of corona) yet in the new Music House.

It's not OOP at Fuga.  ;D Finland may be at one corner of Europe, but Australia and the US/Canada are much further away! Finnish language is ranked among the 5 most difficult languages in the World, but then again you hardly need to know our insanely complex grammar inside out to order a CD or two. You need to know stuff like ETUNIMI = first name, SUKUNIMI = last name (yes, NIMI = name, ETU = front, SUKU = kin. Not hard!), OSOITE = address, SALASANA = password and so on.
