They read the list from the bottom. Just thought I'd let you know.

Blimey, I did not know that!
You must have inside information. :o

Well its not a sin, now is it? ;D

Listening to Wagner? No, indeed, not a sin.

It may predispose you to vice, though  ;D ;D ;D

Yes, sir, you do. Most of us here are well-versed in Harryism.  ;D

Hmmmm, so having a crisis is Harryism. Well, well very interesting. :)

Well we don't want to have that, now do we?
Only have that composition with many strings attached, and I think Herr von Karajan is up to that mischief. ;D

But you are welcome to check out if I really have that many cd's. 8)

*knocks repeatedly at Harry's front door, but isn't heard due to the din created by one of Harry's many HvK recordings*

Some 650 CDs (350 classical), and 300 LPs (70 classical).
351 classical.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Some have a long way to go. :)

Now, Harry, the advantage of a small collection is that if a dire time will come and have to sell it, it'll be much easier to select what to give up and what to keep. :)

For a long time I thought many of the posters here have loads of CDs -- far more than has been disclosed on this thread, since many are able to offer opinions on so many works and recordings, and what's more, so many people here can offer recommendations on the definitive, best, or favorite recording of a certain work, siting dozens of recordings they have allegedly heard, while apparently only having a few hundred in their total collection. How does that work, I wonder?

I think it's obvious that too often recommendations are whatever the person has in hand, even if it's only one recording. I usually confess up front what recordings I own or have heard, and I rarely say, this is the best, this is definitive. When I do say it, though, you can be sure it is. ;D

"hey, they made a movie about
Mahler, you ought to go see it.
he was as f*cked-up as you are."

Hearing a recording it's not the same as owning it, my friend.

Hello all!

Whatever will happen my friend I rather eat my cd's then selling them! :)

Hello Andrei.

That's sure the truth.  Sometimes, folks make definitive statements about the worth of a recording based only on hearing it once on a radio station.

Yes superlatives need to be kept to a minimum, so when you do use one, it still has meaning.

Not only that, how many people have acturally heard over ten recordings of the same work over the radio, especially if it is not a warhorse?

Now, if you like me have a rather small collection... 350 classical CDs is approximately 350 hours of music. These days 350 hours is what I have available in a year for serious listening, which I think most of the classical music I own deserves. On top of that I'm buying 50 new disks a year. So...
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.
