Wow, thanks.  I'll have to check out the string quartets for sure.

Second listen:

I thought that this looked like an interesting release. I have this orchestra playing music by Leshnoff and read a good review of the Barber, which is a favourite of mine. An interesting concept for a CD.

Kreisleriana on a Streicher, it's like hearing the music for the first time, because you really can hear all the music, all the voices, clearly and equally. And that adds to the sense of disarticulation, and the physicality, of the music, which is a good thing.

A very good work. His birthday was yesterday, btw.

Was it (birthday). "Blackbird" next with same forces.

I found this Ina Boyle CD to be very fine and a must for admirers of VW's music, although she has her own unique style.

I agree, Jeffrey. The Violin Concerto is the closest to RVW in style and content but wrong in my view to dismiss her as a RVW clone.

The neglect of female composers of her generation is shameful.

Couperin, F: Intégrale Des Livres De Pièces De Clavecin 1-4 • Ordres 1-27 [Baumont]

Quatrième Livre de Pieces de Clavecin

I finished listening to this wonderful set last night.
Baumont displays a somewhat assertive playing style throughout this set. The music is played on a robust sounding instrument. The recording is full sounding and spacious in a warm acoustic.

Traverso

Martha Argerich has now reached the respectable age of 80 and what a wealth of beautiful recordings she has left us.
From her rich discography I choose this one today.

I have only heard the Naxos versions of the symphonies but they were very dull.

Most seem to compare his symphonies to Brahms. In that vein, I like Bruch's classical symphonic architecture and the mid-19th Century German vibe of Schumann and his ilk.

I absolute love the music from Father and Son. Such accesible and romantic music, with gorgeous melodies, and an expert feel to make the music flow! Recording and performance are beyond approach.
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

Sebastian Aguilera de Heredia.

Organ Music.

Miguel del Barco Diaz. plays on a Renaissance organ of Sta, Maria de la Consolacion Church, Garrovillas de Alconetar  (Caceres) Spain
The organ was built before 1578.

I repeatedly professed my admiration for this beautifully recorded disc. The Renaissance organ is a jewel, and so well maintained. Heredia's music is certainly worth to be heard. He was truly one of the great masters in his field.

Giacomo Puccini: Tosca. Victor de Sabata, Orchestra e Coro del Teatro alla Scala di Milano

First listen to this famous recording, which was sent to me by mistake. (I wanted the Karajan one with Leontyne Price.) So far so good. Anyone who knows me knows that I am far from an Italian opera aficionado, but I do find Puccini to be an interesting composer, and I would love to explore his music in more depth.
