I'm sure that recording is quite good.

It is, above all this performance of Souvenir de Florence. Excellent from start to finish.
Part of the tragedy of the Palestinians is that they have essentially no international support for a good reason: they've no wealth, they've no power, so they've no rights.

The Tchaikovsky SQ/Souvenir recording I have and referred to as "EMI" is this one, apparently originally recorded on Melodiya:

It's scarcely mentioned by online reviewers (classicstoday, classical.net, musicweb). There seems to be a Gramophone online review, but it's rather vague. The Teldec seems to get the most praise overall. FWIW.  ;)

O dear,  ;D, but be aware the next volumes are equally enticing. Had a quick run through of Volume II & III
I've always had great respect for Paddington because he is amusingly English and a eccentric bear He is a great British institution and emits great wisdom with every growl. Of course I have Paddington at home, he is a member of the family, sure he is from the moment he was born. We have adopted him.

The new erato

Yes, vol 3 is in the post which I will collect from the post office tomorrow (just returned from a months vacation in Norway).

The two symphonies on the disc are among Wordsworth's best works IMO. Last heard it in February 2019 and gave it an A+. Maybe Toccata Classics will give us the missing symphonies (6 and 7) with these fine artists  ?

I already own Jurowski's The Sleeping Beauty, so I figured I'd go ahead and finish collecting the rest of his Tchaikovsky ballet recordings. My favorite set of these ballets is Svetlanov on Melodiya, but I imagine these being splendidly performed as well.

Also bought:

As a sort of cap on my recent Tchaikovsky, I bought this DVD with two documentaries:

I love the documentaries Nupen did on Sibelius, so I'm sure he did just as good in these on Tchaikovsky.

Good to know André - I'm looking forward to receiving the CD. I sampled the 8th Symphony on You Tube yesterday and was most impressed.

Aho is my favorite contemporary composer, but I'm not quite caught up with the BIS recordings --- there's still about 3 or 4 that I'm missing that I'd like to buy.

A composer I never heard from , but his music is to my ears wonderful.

I went into the school where I work this afternoon to discover three boxes of classical music being sold off by the Music Dept. for £1.00 per CD for a school charity.
So, for £5.00 I bought the following:

Schoenberg: Verklarte Nacht etc (Double Album, Decca)
Great Musical Occasions from Westminster Abbey (VW, Bliss, Stanford, Parry etc)
Stravinsky: Rite of Spring/Apollo (DGG Karajan)
Brahms/Schumann: Symphony No.1 (DGG Karajan)
Khachaturian: Symphony No.3, Festive Poem/Ippolitov Ivanov etc (Chandos) - I already have this one but a spare copy is always useful  ::)

True, you could get a double CD DJ mixer and do an avant-garde John Cage type thing with them. 8)

Those Schoenberg, Stravinsky and Khachaturian recordings are quite good, Jeffrey. Nice finds.

Just bought:

This recording has been lingering in and out of my shopping cart for years even well after my first Tchaikovsky 'phase' was over. Finally decided to buy it as I've heard excerpts from it and definitely wanted the work in its entirety.
