Anna Clyne.
Mythologies.

Masquerade; This Midnight Hour; The Seamstress; Night Ferry; rewind.

Jennifer Koh, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Marin Alsop, Sakari Oramo, Andrew Litton, Andre de Ridder

A really super experience, I simply love the sound world Anna Clyne creates. "The Seamstress"is a marvel of sounds" Thanks to Jeffrey who alerted me to her.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Over the week-end:

Nos. 1 & 2. Very good performance and sound.

Violin duets from early 19C Vienna. I wonder who else besides me finds this stuff attractive.

A very relaxing, stress-relieving disc.

Ricercar Septimi Toni.
Versus (12)

Manuel Tomadin plays on a V. Columbi organ, (1532)- Francesco Zanin (1999) at the Corpo di Christo Church Dom in Valvasone.
Pitch: 1/4 comma mesotonic. Temperament: A= 492,5 at 22 degrees. It's a 47 note keyboard (F-1-F4) and a 20-note pedalboard (F-1-D2), constantly combined with the manual.

This organ has quite some volume, in which the Tenori 12' has quite a voice. Also a high pitch makes the sound quite bright. Close miking makes that you easily tire in listening in one go. Tomadin is an energetic organ player, and sometimes goes at high speed through the proceedings.

Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Duos für 2 Violinen & Etüden.

Mayseder: Duo für 2 Violinen op. 32
Jansa: Duo für 2 Violinen op. 64 Nr. 6
Böhm: Etüden Nr. 1 & 2
Hellmesberger: Duo für 2 Violinen Nr. 3
Grutsch: Thema & Variationen aus "Duo für 2 Violinen" op. 7 Nr. 2
Dont: Duo für 2 Violinen op. 43

Adela Frasineanu (Violin), Raimund Lissy (Violin)

It has to be said, this music makes you smile and is soothing for heart and ear. Especially if it is so well played as by these artists. Sound is pleasing too. Almost all composers on this disc are forgotten. And I am certainly going to explore the many chamber works by Mayseder, Gramolo recorded already 6 volumes with his music. And if the Duo für 2 violinen, opus 64, No. 6 is the level of quality maintained in all his other music,, its certainly worthwhile.

I think this is a magnificent organ. Molardi also used it for his Merulo recording.

William Schuman: Symphony No.3 and 'Judith' - this is a very fine CD:

I agree, but my ears had some trouble processing it, could be my ears though :)

Thought I would explore these a little today, and am pleasantly surprised. I haven't been captivated by them, but I have enjoyed them. I have been listening while working, which has meant that occasionally they have drifted into background music, but I can't argue with their attractiveness and calming nature. Nothing dissonant or challenging, which is what I have needed from them today, and have found them an easy listen. I will probably spend the next day or so listening through the whole cycle back to back before engaging a bit more closely.

Nice. I should listen to that sometime soon (I too have that Haydn big box). Good day to you, Karl!

THREAD DUTY:

Heinz Holliger plays Bruno Maderna's Third Oboe Concerto (Gary Bertini conducts the Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra).

What a beautiful piece, and beautifully played as well!
