Decided to give the "new" Arkivmusic a test run, including one new jazz release.

You reminded me of the Guarnieri. One to give it a listen soon. This Naxo Brazilian series are getting better more and more.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL!

As Kyle pointed out, this is a rather surprising purchase. I didn't think Weinberg would be up your alley. I mean do you even like Shostakovich? Don't remember any discussion on this composer from you. Anyway, a nice haul nevertheless. I rather enjoy the Weinberg Violin Sonatas.

Hmmmm....not to discourage you, Andrei, but Weinberg may be a bit too "doom and gloom" for your tastes. ;) That said, I'm not familiar with his violin sonatas....

I don't mind "doom and gloom" every now and then in moderate doses, provided it's melodic --- and from what I sampled, Weinberg qualifies.

I like Shostakovich's music, it's just that I don't listen to it very often. Yiou must have missed my previous purchase, which among other items featured this:

I'll report on Weinberg in the listening thread.

I just never see you listening to Shostakovich or mentioning him in the "Listening" thread, which doesn't mean that you don't listen to him of course, but your posts don't exactly scream for Soviet Era composers too often. I hope you enjoy Weinberg. I think he's great and well worth your time.

Well, that's true.  :D

I sampled the Weinberg discs a bit and I must say I didn't find anything objectionable --- I mean, it's neither 2nd Viennese School nor Xenakis.  :D

FWIW, I love the Second Viennese School and Xenakis. :)

Finally I located an affordable copy of this log OOP set:

I already know  Petrassi's eight Concertos for Orchestra from Zoltán Peskó's pioneering traversal on the Italia label, but the works are interesting enough to warrant alternative versions, and friends whose opinions I respect think very highly of Arturo Tamayo's readings (Tamayo is one of the great exponents of modern music, and his recordings never disappoint). Looking forward to this one!  :)

Lovely! Kubelik was a great Mahlerian. I think I prefer these Audite live recordings to the DG recordings.

Bought via the BIS store and I'm sure I'll be receiving a message from Robert von Bahr in due course:

I received this BIS online store order today and looks like I got it much faster than Poju got his order from them and he's right next door! :P

My purchasing of CD's has gone down considerably.
Occasionally, I do make exceptions for some handpicked items:

Same here. But I ordered these out of particular interest:

Good to hear!

I am slated to hear Mahler's 8th at the Minnesota Orchestra next month for Osmo Vänskä's farewell concert, so I thought I would afford myself another recording.

Did some bargain hunting in Vienna resulting in this haul:

The Barbirolli set gets a bad rep regarding the sound transfer but it was just a few euros so I thought why the hell not. Looking forward especially to the Schnittke and Brewaeys. I knew nothing about David Bruce but was intrigued and the swell guy at the (also quite swell) record store threw it in as a free extra CD – now I see Bruce is also a popular classical youtuber and looks like a decent chap himself, so I'm curious about what kind of music he writes.

It looks like the Minnesota Orchestra has not chosen a replacement for Vanska yet and will be auditioning conductors over the next year or so?
