Glad you're liking this! Alkan is a magnificent composer.

Every time I hear this piece, I'm in awe. One of my all-time favorite pieces of chamber music.

Really excellent (and tuneful) early Strauss that rarely gets performed. I particularly enjoyed Aus Italien and its opening, which reminded me of Vaughan Williams.
So much great music, so little time...

The man that hath no music in himself,
Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds,
Is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils.
The motions of his spirit are dull as night,
And his affections dark as Erebus.

The LSO is phenomenal in the recording. I like the performance of Viola Concerto as well.
Me too Manabu!

Roy Harris: Symphony No.7
There is an argument that this (and not No.3) is Roy Harris's greatest symphony. Much the same can be said of William Schuman's 6th Symphony. These performances may not be the most urgent, but they lend themselves to repeated listening and the combination of the two works together on a single CD is irresistible:
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

Sinding's 1st Symphony is his most exciting and powerful example in the form as far as I am concerned. The others just pale in comparison.

Guarnieri: Chôro for piano and orchestra

I just had to listen to something Brazilian to celebrate the good news for that country today.

Great piece! Guarnieri at his most "Romantic".

A bit of Bach before the trick-or-treaters arrive... I may throw on some organ music next, depending on if the wife gives me looks...  :D

Such tense and haunting work, beautifully overwhelming; and very atmospheric for Halloween. :D
