I agree; they may not be as brilliant and vivid as the Wiener Philharmoniker's performances at the Neujahrakozert, but they are very fine anyway. Besides, who records Strauss' complete orchestral works deserves definitely high esteem!

Johann Rufinatscha.
Orchestral Works, Volume I. (Still waiting on the next volume)
The Bride of Massina, Overture.
Symphony No.6.
BBC Philharmonic, Gianandrea Noseda.

In 2011 this CD was a best buy for me and I anticipated a second volume soon, but far from it I am still waiting. One of those abandoned projects of Chandos, of which there are many I am afraid. Still being pissed about this. And a email did not help either, for they never gave an reaction at all.

Quote from: Harry on December 09, 2022, 01:14:37 AMYes the gasmeter is defect, it takes 6 times as much as what is actually used. Calling the provider, they said that they would sent someone to check it, but yesterday I got a mail that they would come to my home on the 21 of December, and until then they did not give a damn that two seniors are sitting in the cold. If I would keep the temperature only on 16 degrees, that would cost me 1500 euros a month. And this I cannot pay. Hence the cold.

That is really shit. I hope they have a way of correcting any overbilling.

Yes, if the meter is really defect they will compensated but how much no idea, they are vague about it, and that's why we sit in the cold, at the moment it is 6 degrees inside.

6° inside is very uncomfortable, it can't be good for you. I'm sorry you're having to put up with this.

Be wary of something they could do. They could fix the meter so that it gives accurate readings, and take two readings over a period of a month to get a picture of your usage,  which they then use as the basis of estimates to correct the overbilling during the time when the meter wasn't functioning correctly. The thing to watch is this: if they take the two accurate readings in winter the estimates will be too high for warmer seasons.  It may be better to ask them to wait till April or May to get the base readings.

(I've had similar problems to you.)

You are right, this has to be properly done, but I cannot use the central heating for more than 2 hours a day, otherwise we will go bankrupt.
IO have a digital meter and they will first establish if the sensor is still working properly, if yes they will install a new meter right away, and calculate the excess gas I have used and compensate this. Its all rather a mess.

Maybe time for a travel, country town or southern Europe, and stay at a warm hotel and go to restaurants?

My wife is too ill for this, otherwise I would leave this instance for a warm place somewhere.

Quote from: Mookalafalas on December 08, 2022, 04:27:58 AMAny Haydn symphony fans with access to Amazon streaming should give these a chance. Called "historical" chamber orchestra performances, the sound is anything but "historical". Fresh, taut, immediate...and fun.

I've gotten to the third symphony, and the sound has become an issue for me. I noticed the distinct staticy swish-swish-swish coming every 1.8 seconds (the time it takes an LP to make a complete revolution). The sign of a poor pressing with a bad spot. It makes it obvious that these were transferred from LPs, and not pristine ones. I was transported back to 1979 (and not in a good way). It's a shame because I agree with you that the performances are attractive.

In any case, I don't think I will continue with this set, but the idea of a casual survey of all of the Haydn Symphonies still attracts and I think I will continue with the Davies set I have on my figurative shelves (actually hard discs).

The annoying thing about the Davies is the applause at the end of each symphony, but rather than lunge for the top button, I just take the headphones off at that point. (If I were really ambitious I'd edit it out with Audacity, or some such).

Antonin Dvorak.
Symphony N0.2.
Scottish National Orchestra, Neeme Jarvi.

Not a bad take on these symphonies, and rather good sound in the bargain. Could be a tad faster, but apart from that nothing to complain.

That my friend is a very good idea, although my electricity bill would go towards the sky. But it appeals to me very much ;D  ;D

Is somebody able to find me this set, for less than 69 euros? Thanks in advance.
