Walton: Belshazzar's Feast

This classic is unbeatable!

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Quote from: Symphonic Addict on December 10, 2022, 03:39:59 PMWhereas the music flows beautifully throughout and is very atmospheric, it also tends to be too much contemplative most of the time for my taste. Not my favorite Franck I fear.  :-\

Not a big fan of the disc, but I like the Massenet and Dukas recordings by Lean-Luc Tingaud.

Looks like a nice disc. Got all the Christmas CD's on the table also in the knowledge that I cannot play them all, but we might give them a try, right?

I know! They are too many to play them all, but that's why I'm starting early.  ;D

Also on Spotify:

Vincente Lusitano was Portuguese priest-composer of mixed Portuguese-African descent.
I wasn't familiar with his music, which is rarely recorded. Definitely a significant discovery. The Marian Consort does make an effort not to sound too English and the result is quite convincing.

Janacek Piano Music, On an Overgrown Path, Sonata 1 X 1905, Thomas Ades

I find the sonata more engaging than On an Overgrown Path. Ades gives a compelling performance.
