Quote from: vandermolen on January 24, 2023, 08:41:25 AMThat has the ring of truth about it and offers a convincing explanation for those dreary covers. The LP featuring Tintagel, Northern Ballad etc was much better, as was the Moeran/Bax/Holst LP featuring November Woods.

The Bax covers as well as other stereo Lyrita issues (150 odd) were all Keith Hensby designs. Most are imaginative but I agree Bax was not Hensby's finest hour. I wonder if that the Bax symphony release was the only occasion that Lyrita issued anything approaching a set, less 3rd & 4th symphonies, Hensby thought it a good idea to use an uniform image on all sleeves.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Music in Germany, From Schutz to Bach.
CD I.

Too many composers and performances to write down.
A fine box with music, from many renowned labels, excellent soloists, and instrumental ensembles, compiled by Jerome Lejeune. The extensive info in a book added, makes for a informative insight in all the music presented. The Artwork and quality of this set is well above perfect. They do not make them like this anymore.

Quote from: Brian on January 24, 2023, 12:31:24 PMOh man, this was one of their last posts :(

After Klavierman deleted his account last year following a ruckus in the audio equipment thread, he registered again last week, only to delete his account again a few days later --- and this time I am not aware of any ruckus that might have justify the decision. I'm greatly puzzled.

In my home the temps are at an all time low, 9.4 degrees, also in my listening room, due to a new Central heating system, that uses more gas as a minor hospital. So since I have no other means of heating, I resort to Hot Toddies, quite a few in a day. Keeps a semblance of warmth at least. ;D

Antonin Dvorak.
Complete Symphonies.
Symphonies No. 6 & 7.
Scottish National Orchestra, Neeme Jarvi.

I think Jarvi's take of these symphonies is the right one for me. Fabulous performances.

Grazyna Bacewicz, (And a Hot Toddy)
Violin Concertos, volume II.
No. 2/4/5.
Joanna Kurkowicz, Violin.
Polish Radio SO, Lukasz Borowicz.

I am mesmerized by this music, and it will last. For me personally Bacewicz was one of my great discoveries. She managed to surprise and delight me, and that's a rare thing, especially when you get older. :)

I had a nice exchange with Keith Hensby some years ago. Rob Barnett of Musicweb had wondered what had happened to him, so I tracked him down and he was then working as a freelance artist. I agree that most of his covers were very good (Hadley's 'The Trees So High', Cyril Scott's Piano Concerto 1 and 2, Moeran's Symphony Sinfonietta etcetc).
