Hendrik Andriessen.
Complete Orchestral works.
Volume I.
Symphony No.I.
Ballet Suite.
Symphonic Etude.
Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Johann Kuhnau.
Netherlands SO, David Porcelijn.

As far as Dutch composers go, Andriessen is on top of my list. The CPO recordings are excellent and Porcelijn is a conductor that has this composer in his veins.

are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Incredibly fun recording!

Performers : Thomas Sanderling, Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, The Moscow State Chamber Choir

Shostakovich at his quirkiest, most satirical. Great fun.

Hmmm, I am not familiar with this work, but am intrigued. I love quirky and satirical Shostakovich.

Alexander Arutiunian.
Violin Concerto.
Sinfonietta.
Concertino for Piano and Orchestra.
Ilya Grubert, Violin.
Narine Arutiunian, Piano.
Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Constantine Orbelian.

Twas long ago that I have played this disc (1998), and I clearly forgot how good the music is, plus the fantastic recording is amazing. The performers are all contributing to result. Arutiunian is a composer almost forgotten, which is a shame, for he is an exponent of a long tradition of Armenian composers that need to be heard.

CD I.
Concerto No. 1-6.
The Brandenburg Concert, Roy Goodman.

Fine performances of these concertos. Tony Faulkner made pristine recordings of them

Read up some on both Seiji Ozawa's legacy (including lists of his most acclaimed recordings) and the controversy that surrounded his final decade in Boston (basically that he did almost nothing in rehearsal and created a culture of sloppy playing and the orchestra trying to guess his intentions).

I'm not sure what happened or changed towards the end, but it sure sounds like the first 15+ years of the Ozawa/Boston marriage were electric and exciting. Certainly this recording is a lot more interesting to me, personally, than the bloated Bach arrangements on the Salonen/Sony album.

Marvelous work.
