Yun: Clarinet Quintet No. 1
Gouvy: String Quartet in G major

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied. The terror IS REAL more than ever!

Disc 10

Schumann: Liederkreis Op. 39 and Brahms Lieder, including the Two Songs for Alto and Viola and the Four Serious Songs. Barenboim plays for the Schumann and André Previn for the Brahms with Cecil Aronowitz for the Two Songs with Viola. A superb disc.

\"A beautiful voice is not enough.\" Maria Callas

Symphonic Poem (Rhapsody), op. 14
Slavonic Rhapsody 1-3, op. 45, No. 1-3

Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra
Libor Pešek
(op. 14)
Zdeněk Košler

Løvfald posted this recording a few weeks past, and I commented that I had been an ignoramus assuming the Slavonic Rhapsodies were the same as the Slavonic Dances before now.

I am happy to have been corrected. They are bursting with energy and Slavic flavor.

Quote from: ritter on February 22, 2023, 12:42:41 PMThe "Casella-thon" chez ritter continues...

Vintage late Casella: the Triple Concerto for Piano, Violin, Cello and Orchestra, op. 56 (from 1956), played —quite convincingly— by a Spanish regional orchestra—, and the Sonata a tre, op. 62 (dedicated to Petrassi, and a work the composer was particularly proud of).

Two strong, meaty works, above all the Sonata a tre, which deserves to be counted amongst the great 20th century piano trios IMO.

vers la flamme

Gabriel Fauré: Requiem, op.48; Ave verum Corpus, op.65 no.1; Tantum Ergo, op.65 no.2; Ave Maria, op.67 no.2; Maria, Mater gratiae, op.47 no.2; Cantique de Jean Racine, op.11; and the Messe Basse. John Rutter, Cambridge Singers, City of London Sinfonia

Stunning disc that I apparently have not heard since 2020. It's wonderful returning to it.

Huber: Symphony #7 (Schweizerische)
Weigle: Stuttgart

The music is pleasant to listen to, but I'm not as impressed as I was with his 2nd symphony. There are great moments, though, and some interesting orchestration. (I especially like the opening of the 2nd movement.)

Jenner: Three String Quartets

Amiable, joyous, carefree works by this German composer who was a contemporary of Mahler, Sibelius, Nielsen, Magnard, Glazunov, Strauss, etc.

Twas long ago that I have played this disc (1998), and I clearly forgot how good the music is, plus the fantastic recording is amazing. The performers are all contributing to result. Arutiunian is a composer almost forgotten, which is a shame, for he is an exponent of a long tradition of Armenian composers that need to be heard.

I seem to remember his trumpet concerto has a few recordings.
I have one with Alison Balsom as soloist.

More relevant than that is that Gustav Jenner was Brahms' only pupil.

Generally the organs are tuned equally when nothing about it is mentioned in the booklets.
