I bought the whole series and remember being very happy with them. :)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

I've had the whole series for a long time too and thought I might as well start listening to it.  :D

Not at all. In comparison, I find Weiner's suite much more substantial and enjoyable than the Bartok. A pleasure to revisit these really.

Strauss: Die Frau Ohne Schatten Act 3 [Böhm]

This is, for me, a very accessible Strauss opera. I struggle with Ariadne Auf Naxos and Elektra. Yes, there are some shrieking soprano scenes hereabouts but they are, thankfully, somewhat restricted. The oftentimes sublime nature of the orchestral music does considerably make up for it.

I am very fond of that particular performance of the 'Archduke'.

First time hearing this now ancient recording.  Superb start to finish.  The two sonatas appear to have been more favored by critics at the time, and they really are very fine, but the G Major concerto, imbued with a C Major concerto style elan, with Grimaud doing her light, bright playing thing, is masterful.

Finishing off this 2 CD set with....

Concerto No. 10
Concerto No. 11
Concerto No. 12

For me, a correct presentation of the music of Vivaldi, especially in faster tempo movements, must have a vibrant approach to the music, a continuous forward momentum in the drive of the music and a lyrical approach to the musical lines. These presentations from Marriner and his musicians possess all of my desired attributes. These are very finely delivered presentations.

I'm especially a fan of La Stravaganza!

This is the third disc by Voces Suaves I have been listening to this week, and only to conclude it is also a winner. The voices are again well balanced, and perfectly recorded by Christoph Frommen, the engineer who records most of the Organ discs of the label Aeolus. He must have absolute hearing, for he captured the music in state of the Art sound. There is a wonderous mix of Madrigali on this disc, all done to utter perfection. Voices without blemish. Instrumental contributions are a match to that. Absolutely recommended, there is no disappointment on this CD. Informative booklet too. So don't walk, run to the online shop. :)  :)
