Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No.1 in C minor, op.11. Kurt Masur, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig

Talked about by no one, this symphony, I listened to it a few times when I bought the box four years ago, but little if ever since. Sounds good so far.

I'll join you, but listening to the Concerto Koln performing my favourite of the string symphonies, the D minor 7th.

Quote from: Florestan on April 14, 2023, 07:01:48 AMActually, my original post contained the first line only. The second one has been added later and not by me.

I forgot to make it clear that was my line, it has been edited now to reflect that.  And thank you for bringing the image to my attention. 8)

Okay, but still, it isn't clear what it is not: SFW or NSFW?  ;D

Maybe a funny story...

At my previous job before this one, on my first day the IT guy came to set up my computer. He said, "Let me explain the rules for you. This office is a 'Free Speech Zone.' Which means you can do anything on the internet as long as it is legal." I said OK. He made a face and said, "You don't understand...you can do ANYTHING legal on the internet at this office. You can look at ANYTHING legal in this office."

After that I knew what the IT guys were doing all day  ???  ???  ;D  ;D

Ah, I see you deleted Mandryka's post altogether. Splendid job, indeed...

Well, I find it highly amusing that guys from a country where hardcore pornography is protected under the constitutional free speech are offended by the display of a pair of nipples chosen as legit cover art by Warner Classics.  ;D

When I was in The Netherlands I had a Russian office coleague who watched internet porn on a daily basis. One of those days, her girlfriend phoned him and I overheard their talk. She probably asked him "What's up?", because he answered "Ya rabotayu", Russian for "I'm working".  ;D

Okay, if we are going to start saying that actual album covers from legitimate classical record companies cannot be posted here... I'm sorry but that is fucking insane.

It was a Lorin Maazel album, correct? That well-known purveyor of salaciousness?

We are not talking about magazines furtively sold in brown paper bags. We are talking about album covers that are quite happily displayed in public for purchase. If you want to stop the heterosexual banter around here, fine, but don't blame the image. In that context the image is not the problem, and describing the image as NSFW is ridiculous.

What's next? The censoring of opera plots?

It's well established that in the USA anything at all sexual is far more worrying than acres of violence. As for nipples, just one is enough to cause a massive drama. Ask Janet Jackson.

But the English-speaking world in general also seems to have a different standard to continental Europe.

I took a look at some album covers for Lulu, both CD and DVD, and also at some stageshots from actual productions. I'm still pondering whether to post them or not.  ;D

With all respect Andrei, when it comes to the actual problem here of the COMMENTARY rather than the image, you are part of the problem. So no, don't post it just because you feel like poking the bear. Poke it if you're actually listening to the recording.

Goodnight.

Yes, as of late I've been noticing this difference. I wonder what's the reason(s) for it.

CPE Bach.
La Folia, and other works.
The Purcell Quartet.
Recorded in 1986 by Anthony Howell.
TT=57:19.

There is no mention of the venue were it is recorded but its remarkably good for its age, and the performance leaves nothing to desire, its all tastefully done, with some excellent playing by the Purcell Quartet, not unusual with such a fine lineup of performers.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

This isn't about pietistic US prudery. The guidelines are courtesy of the Dungeon Master who (last I checked) is no Yank. I expressed my objection to the objet d'art in exactly this way: that picture was certainly worth three words. Historically GMG'ers periodically speculate, "Gee, why do so few women participate here?" My wife, an artist and a Russian, wouldn't think much of the puerile glee in titty pics.

I find it odd that the cover art of a classical music release by a major record label had to be suppressed, but I certainly find the puerile comments on the physical attractiveness of female performers to be inappropriate and non-welcoming to many potential participants here.
