Leapin' Jörgen looks like a mighty happy chappy, and that's more than alright by me.

Maybe there's something about flaky trombonists.
Christian Lindberg has a lot of offbeat covers, but they're quirky rather than bad-looking, e.g.

Lindberg is already heavily featured here and on links to other sites from this thread. Zero points for style as he tries to convey "Motorbike Concerto"... and frankly zero style points for there being a piece called "Motorbike Concerto". It's got mid-life crisis written all over it.

It's actually worse than that, even if you don't deduct points for the conductor wearing a helmet.

Ye gods!

That goes way beyond "bad", into some surreal realm of its own (to lift a phrase from V. Nabokov's  Nikolai Gogol, "an apotheosis of nightmare nonsense").  :o

You lasted far longer than I.

[Added] Apologies for not paying sufficient attention upthread. Evidently Mr. Lindberg deserves his own wing in the "Crap Album Cover Hall of Fame".

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

At least with video you get the full range of kitsch. I feel BIS missed a trick releasing it on CD.

I can hardly think of a less appropriate picture for either symphony.
"Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm" (Churchill).

At least Lindberg managed to make himself look edgy and serious on his Pettersson covers  ;D

I'm now strangely tempted to find this Motorbike Concerto CD.

Wait--is Lindberg the conductor the same as Lindberg the trombonist?

Yes! He is also a composer.

I thought that the opening minute(?) was quite clever with the sounds that he was making imitating a motorbike, but I must admit that I lost interest pretty quickly thereafter.  :(
Quote from: 71 dB on June 16, 2023, 01:10:16 PMHow do you end up with cover "art" like this?
I'm thinking that it must have been a really hot day in Denmark.

Inspite of these "quircky", "strange", "silly" , "childish", "disorderly", "ridiculous"....cd covers, Lindberg is a commited, inspired, talented and passionate musician. Apparently "larger than life" and "prone to a weird sense of  humor" , adoring "snazzy shirts and leather trousers", he has revived interest in Allan Petterson and commisioned more than a handful of new trombone concertos.

As I wrote before: "a jolly good fellow"....

This Cadbury's Milk Tray Chocolate Selection Box cover is worse (I think I posted it before) considering that A Pastoral Symphony was VW's Requiem for those lost in the First World War and the violent 4th Symphony has sometimes been seen as VW's response to the rise of Fascism (although he denied this).

Lindberg is astonishing as a trombonist, and he really is amazing playing that bizarre/awful motorbike piece... about which my biggest complaint, by the way, is why does he have to point the trombone around at different people like it's a rifle?

Ah, thanks.  I saw the "Prince of Denmark Airforce Band" and so was thinking that the photo/location was in Denmark for some reason or another.  :)

I suspect that the moving of the trombone around is perhaps trying to imitate a motorbike traveling along a windy road and also maybe the leaning/movement of the cyclist?  I just watched a couple of minutes of it though.

Maybe the one photo WAS in Denmark. I was more focused on shifting the blame for Lindberg's series of aesthetic choices.
