This week has finally been warmer in Finland (+24°C / 75°F in Helsinki today).  8)

Poured here two days ago.  Thankfully, we received a reprieve yesterday (ironically when I had some workers here to replace my leaking outdoor water faucet).  And more rain today making it challenging to get caught up with needed weeding.

Sadly, it's also currently raining at Wimbledon (and doesn't look good for later on in the day--at least according to what I can see on my weather app).  Play has been suspended.  Thankfully, it's due to start soon (play not the rain) on Centre Court and Court No. 1.  They both have retractable roofs unlike the gazillion outer courts.  Was really enjoying a match on Court No. 2 between D. Thiem and S. Tsitsipas when the rain started.  So it goes!  They'll be scrambling to reorganize things:  finishing matches and figuring out how to fit in ones that hadn't yet started.

How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Out of the pan, into the fire.  I'm going to visit family in west Texas.  Triple digit highs there.

I'd be happy to swap you or them some of the rain that we're getting (yet again today) for some sunshine?

You might change your mind on that!  I still remember when I moved east and there were clouds and variable weather and I felt sweet relief.

Hazy, Hot, and Humid--of that I am not a fan.  Warm and dry I can handle.  Upper 90's and higher, I must admit, I'll pass on!  Are you originally from Texas, David?

We're getting a break from rain here today.  Alas, it's another soggy start today at Wimbledon.   :(

Nope!  I was born in Michigan but grew up in Nevada.

Another hot and dry state!

The sun has come out at Wimbledon [Shhh...don't say that above a whisper!].

Miserable as heck here. 33º C, actually nearly 35º in Montpelier. Dew point is 22º. The one thing I don't miss about Michigan is the hot spells, and it seems they've followed me here.

Oh, no!  Yuck!

I'm trying to pretend that I'm in London at Wimbledon.  It's currently a bit warm (84), but sunny today.

p.s.  The mugginess and warm weather here have made it challenging to sleep at night (trying hard not to turn on a/c).

We've had 173mm of rain since yesterday evening in central Vermont. For the metrically challenged, that's close to 7"!

Wow!  Any local flooding that you've seen or heard about?

No idea what we received here, but it kept raining and raining (and hard) yesterday.

Copy/paste from Twitter, a tweet posted yesterday. Today's heat index is expected to be above 105F again.

I'd say this is unbelievable, but that word has been losing its meaning lately. #Miami just hit a 109.9°F heat index at 1pm on Monday.
This is the 30th consecutive day with a 100°+ heat index, a record 5th day at 105+, and an unprecedented 2nd day at 109+

Part of the reason is rainfall being less and much later in the day than usual, with a heat dome of dryer air being parked over Florida, plus ocean temperatures are much higher than normal (upper 90sF).

30th consecutive day?!  :o

Have you been experiencing any brownouts?

Finally gave in and turned on my a/c in the living room yesterday.  This morning, I received an email from my electric company about my usage suddenly going up.  I'm trying to come up with a way to moderate my usage (It's currently off--the a/c that is).

Stay cool!

No brownouts yet. [Crosses fingers tightly.]

Bear in mind that although this is somewhat hotter for a longer time, the usual summer day means heat index in the 90s with a day or two above 100 over the course of the summer. So it's really the length and dryness of this heat event that's abnormal.

There were many reports of "catastrophic" flooding in VT. Claimed to be worse than what resulted from Hurricane Irene (which was bad).

I was fearful, but my area in NY State dodged a bullet and we only had on the order of 2" of rain. Soil moisture in the Northeast was very high due to weeks of rain leading up to the storm, which made things worse.

I hope that our neighbors to the north received some too.  Any abatement to the rash of wildfires?

'Fraid I don't know offhand.
The most recent news stories I saw were from about 2 weeks ago, saying that rainfall wasn't enough to extinguish the wildfires.

I know a lot of the US National Weather Service tools, e.g. this for precipitation totals, but nothing about the Canadian equivalent.

This is the best I could find quickly, but I don't know how many (if any) of the rainfall totals pertain to the wildfire areas. The report seems to focus on populous regions, and the flooded areas perhaps are too far south.
