Delos must have assigned that one to a summer intern who was learning Photoshop on the fly. On the plus side, it probably didn't cost them very much.

My only issue is the cropping. It's cut off at a really strange point at the bottom, and not in a way that adds anything. It's not as if it's adding an element of ambiguity that's making me wonder what's not depicted.

By way of contrast, I like this one:

That's not the worst I have seen, but not good either. The texts are just making it messy and the dark red colour of KING DAVID isn't the greatest choice.
Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.

and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Honeggers 1921 oratorium isn't a biblical film from the sixties, nor a cheap musical flick for some American religious TV channel.... :)

For the first performances in the Théâtre du Jorat, no six packs or soupy sunsets were chosen:

Mézières 1921 - quite fun aswell... biblical Smurfs and lots of old curtains:)

I think that would make a great romance novel cover. All he needs is a partner and you'll have something like this...

Are those shades, or is this racially shady?

My guess is that the CD has music from the Magic Flute, and the scene is meant to show Tamino overcoming Monostatos and his fellow slaves by playing the titular Flute...even though in the opera it's actually Papageno who does that with his bells.

The illustration is rather clearly from about 1800.

Oh, that's fabulous.

Executive decision. The whole series were like that.

More than just aspect ratio, filled with deep symbolism. In Russia, official religion along with other state institutions squashes and suppresses individuals.

I found a whole page of pictures from this series, apparently designs for an early (1790s) production of the opera by Joseph and Peter Schaffer. The quote with this picture is from the scene where Tamino's flute playing summons wild beasts. There are also pictures of the two Armed Men, who are similarly shady, but in suits of armor.

Yes, they are probably supposed to be apes or so, Monostatos and his moors would be in some fantastic oriental garb, not like "wild men".

It doesn't look bad at all if you fix it if you ask me:
