I thought this was an excellent performance!  What did you think?

Haydn op.17, the E flat major.

Most congenial.

Mozart: Symphony no.9

Maybe a jump forward several years from no.8 (though there are probably some symphonies in between) to a sparkling C major symphony. Or maybe it's not that much later at all, apparently it's all a bit uncertain. It does feel like the level of sophistication is increasing.

Since my listening yesterday was cut short, returning to this:

One of the nicest recordings by Hopkinson Smith that I've heard.

That's an exaggeration,. There are many contenders for both positions.

Quote from: ritter on September 01, 2023, 11:21:12 AMBTW, anyone looking for a new avatar? The cover of this CD is perfectly in line with the latest GMG trends and fashions, and is up for grabs!

Indeed.  :D

Well, I was when I typed it, but I'd just drunk a bottle of Chinon, and I'm slightly regretting the binge this morning. Thank goodness for Alka Seltzer.

I think a bottle of red in this case would only increase my aversion. I've known this pianist for a long time. Years ago, I went to his concerts, bought his CDs. But I always had a strange feeling about him. I made an effort, but time after time I was left with a strange, unpleasant aftertaste. In India they call such state tamasic - dark, heavy, lethargic. Maybe the problem is me, no contact. In any case, I gave up trying.

Dvorak: Mass in D, op.86. First listen I think to the original version with organ.
