So, you can (hopefully) make her smile....and also reveal that you visited your cat chat group...though very briefly.  :)

Proof that cats are liquid.  :laugh:

    There is a new CowCat in the neighborhood. It appears to be skittish, though, not the sort that will come up to anyone on the street and flop like the old one did.

Well, be patient.  It's probably feeling a bit wary as it's new to the neighborhood and is trying to figure out who to trust and where/what is safe around its new home territory.  :)

A beautiful cat in every sense. So sorry for your loss. It sounds like she was well loved in her nine years.

Quote from: Bachtoven on September 06, 2023, 03:30:20 PMThank you so much. Oh, we cherished every second we spent together.

I didn't post about it at the time, but I had to go through the same thing a few months back with my cat of 15 years.

As unpleasant as that final trip to the vet was what was worse was seeing how quickly and far her health had deteriorated by the morning that had been booked in a week earlier. So there was no illusion that more could have been done. It was time.

I'm sorry you had to go through that.  After going through with that with two pet dogs when I was a child it took me a long time to adopt a dog again.  After Hershey passes (probably sometime in the next few years) I probably won't do it again.

My condolences, she was obviously quite the cat.

While the sense of loss will be felt deeply, you can hopefully find a little relief knowing that she'll never really leave you.

So sorry to hear this news. What a lovely looking cat. Looks like she was lucky to find you and that you gave her a happy life.

@Bachtoven and @SimonNZ

I'm so very sorry for your losses.  And, yes, that final trip to the vet's office is a hard one.  That first time was particularly rough I remember.  No one told me that after the first injection that they would suddenly be 99% "gone".  I had hoped that we could *cuddle for a while longer together and that she would just be sleepy and no longer in pain but that she would still "be there".

*The vet did give us time alone together after the first shot.  It was just very different from what I thought that it would be like.

Try and enjoy the happy memories of your time(s) together.  They were both lucky to have had such kind owners--families really.

All the best,

PD

Quote from: Bachtoven on September 07, 2023, 07:34:23 AMThank you, PD. The first shot took about 5-7 minutes just to put her to sleep, and like your vet, ours gave us tine alone with her. (It must be bad enough having to end the life of someone's loved one, but standing watching them sob for several minutes would be unbearable.) They carefully wrapped her up the soft blanket that they placed her on during the first shot to take her to a different room for the final injection. I turned around as we left to room and saw her precious little face peaking out from it, an image that will forever haunt me.

You have my compassion John, you know that!

yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Quote from: Bachtoven on September 17, 2023, 03:40:00 PMI just noticed that the images I posted of Lucy are gone. Any ideas what could have happened? (When I click on Modify the images' addresses are still there.)

     Try retagging the images. I just did that with an old post that had an obsolete type of tag. If the image is still hosted where it was this will work.

Does the image hosting service have a time limit on links?

I tried to open the image URLS and got a blank page saying "URL signature expired".

So, how did you pick the name Lucy for her?  :)
