George said he played the bass while Paul says he did the bass. It's hard to tell.

Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on September 13, 2023, 10:52:46 AMUm, pardon, but could the posters here add the names of the groups and the album as I (and probably others here) don't always recognize the covers...that plus I'd like to know what they think of the albums...and genres.

I also don't understand posting an image of a record with no title or band name on it.  Most of the time I don't know what it is.  The reason I visit these listening threads is to see something I might want to listen to.  Refusing to offer the necessary information to find a recording seems rude.

I suspect that the folks who do it think that we all recognize the albums...which obviously isn't true.  Even if they don't want to take the time to commentate on the album, I wish that they would add the name of the artist/group and the title of the album as, yes, like you, I come here to see if it's something that I would like to listen to.  It would take about 5 seconds to add that info (probably much shorter than finding and posting an image of it...which I don't always bother to do).

Corinne Bailey Rae - Black Rainbows

I remember when she broke, very fresh and exciting new artist.  But it's been a long time since I checked out what she has done since.  This is her latest.

Anyone in the vicinity of a radio around 2006 heard "Put Your Records On," Corinne Bailey Rae's warm ode to feeling relaxed and fulfilled in the moment. Since then, the song has become a staple of easy listening channels and kindred playlists, even spinning off one viral cover. The commercial success of the song—alongside Rae's self-titled debut, which stayed on the Billboard 200 for nearly a year and a half—helped solidify jazz, soul, and R&B as the foundation for her breezy pop. Seventeen years later, Rae has taken a sharp and surprising turn toward unabashed rock music with her scuzzy, guitar-powered new album, Black Rainbows. She's not whispering but roaring. (continue)

Ah, I remember that song!  :)  Don't recall hearing anything from her recently, but then again, I normally have NPR on.  There's a good radio station that plays a variety of alternative music which I should put on more often.

Just look at them: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX2bE-OBtwk (I've never wanted to be in a room more.)

Don't think the album title has aged well for him.

Still, it's one I don't have and I should correct that.

Apparently this is quite old. Listening for first time. Blown away. (I'm a big Richard Thompson fan, or was back in the 80s).
It's all good...

I haven't heard of that one before now.  Reading the fine print, it looks like covers of his songs?

Love Richard Thompson's music.  Have you ever seen him perform before?  I've been fortunate and seen him three times though I have friends who've seen him whenever he comes around their area (which had been quite often in the past).  His live shows are great!

yes, it's all covers. But really good ones.
I saw him twice, back in the 80s, both solo. Once in a smallish club in Austin, Tx, and then in a tent at a big jazz festival in New Orleans. I think he's become much bigger since then.

Todd's post for Salif Keita above got me curious.  Dug up an older disk, "Anthology." A nice find.

Happy 1500th Page Day.

(Hoping I didn't set some option years ago that paginates posts differently.)

Deeply soulful grooves - funky.

(Just noticed the disc is hard to read. It is Gloria Jones's Share My Love.)

Good album.

I listened to "When the Spell is Broken" with Bonnie Raitt and the Five Blind Boys of Alabama:  excellent!  :)
