Quote from: Maestro267 on December 23, 2023, 08:46:22 AMYou have to assume they'll go on streaming otherwise what's the point of taking the originals off? Also Lyrita stuff is on spotify so...

Oddly, not all Lyrita releases are streamed on Spotify - Daniel Jones' symphonies being a particular glaring example - but hopefully this will be  :)

The newest Daniel Jones symphony recordings are all on Spotify. It's just the older ones of 4/7/8 and 6/9 that are missing.

They are on Qobuz, thankfully for me. :)
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

True, also on Qobuz.

And that's the challenge now that I have 800+ playlists on Spotify - incomplete sets are a pain, but changing and losing all those playlists is just a step too far. Spotify have me very firmly by the short hairs.

Hopefully Lyrita will be eclectic enough to release more of their catalogue to a wider streaming audience. We'll see...

That is precisely the recordings I'm waiting for to be on the streaming services (Symphonies 4-9).

As much as I love Lloyd's music generally, I have to concede that he had his off days. I recently ordered a physical copy of this CD (since it's not available on streaming), and upon listening, realized I hadn't really been missing out on any masterpieces in his oeuvre:

The PC no. 1, subtitled Scapegoat (for reasons I'm not entirely sure of), is not a bad piece overall - it's predominantly darker and more dissonant than most of Lloyd's other works. There's a characteristically upbeat, catchy Lloydian tune about 3/4 of the way in, that, to my annoyance, only makes one appearance throughout the whole work! The concerto ends in a downbeat, inconclusive, and disappointing manner (maybe intentionally). The PC no. 2 I wasn't really convinced by, though maybe I was just in a bad mood the day I listened. It's structurally a bit disjunct, with some sections that verge on being banal/annoying. The most interesting part is the cadenza where the piano is repeatedly interrupted by the snare drum in a threatening, Nielsenesque manner. These works might grow on me with subsequent listens, but at the moment I certainly wouldn't rank them among the finer entries in Lloyd's output.

It's likely to be reissued in 2024 so I'm surprised you jumped the gun.

Brian

I think this answers some questions about how Nimbus will approach their project.

I notice as well that the first movement of No. 1 has all its variations combined into one track, unlike the original release where the individual variations are separately indexed.

Quote from: Symphonic Addict on December 21, 2023, 05:43:02 PMI guess that there will be a reissue with the symphonies 7-12 as well, and I cross my fingers so that they do the same with the piano concertos.

Symphonies 7-12 are due for release on 5th April. Both 4-disc boxes are very inexpensive, retailing for around £20 each. I hope that Lyrita also box up all of the choral music...
A piece is worth your attention, and is itself for you praiseworthy, if it makes you feel you have not wasted your time over it. (SG, 1922)

Brian

The cheap price may be because Lyrita prints on demand on CD-Rs...?

Release to Spotify is small snippets only. Will be interesting to see what happens with that...

Hopefully just a slow release until the initial downloaders have splurged.

No such hints on the ol' Spotify yet. Thankfully, Hyperion are being more profligate with their catalogue, so as to offset my disappointment.

Well, thanks. Perhaps some wav files of you humming the main melodies?
