Quote from: DavidW on December 24, 2023, 04:03:45 PMI've decided to be the only psychopath in perhaps all of North America to listen to Pettersson on Christmas Eve!  The sixth symphony, one of the greats.  My recent relistening to Lindberg recordings has shown me that I was dead wrong before.  Lindberg's drive and transparency are really great.  I will be buying the Pettersson edition.

I see nothing pathological about listening to Pettersson on Christmas Eve. I might join you if I had the time.

Morning listening:

Happy holidays to all!  :)

Next up:

One of my favourite Christmas recordings, and a highlight in the Huelgas discography.

It is cold, wet, awfully grey and drab outside. Time for a tasty Spanish Christmas salad.

In Caracas it is even more spicy.

Nice!

I ordered this set some days ago:

Isabel Palacios (under whose conducting I sang as a chorister as a teenager in Caracas) sings in the Pickett set Traverso was listening to recently, and conducts her Camerata Renacentista de Caracas in the video you've watched and the set I bought. She's really good in this IMHO.

!Feliz Navidad, Peter!

More Bach Kuijken, wanted to listen to my favorite cantata bwv 82.  It is not Christmas, but it is Bach!

Mandryka

Really successful - serious, intense and austere, "deeply felt",  a Renaissance vibe. Top tier.

I decided to listen to Bacewicz Violin Concerto No 1. I accidentally started No 7, which turned out to be something of a revelation. When I originally listened, when this was a new release, I thought No 7 was "too weird." Now I find it very engaging. Then I put on No 1. It was weirder than I remember, also wonderful.

Interesting that the conductor on this release, Borowicz, is the same one conducting the new cpo series of Bacewicz Orchestral Music.

Earlier today, enjoyed listening to Vaughan Williams' Hodie (with Baker and Lewis)--gorgeous!  Later on, Britten's A Ceremony of Carols (also enjoyed...will have to double check who that was with).

Even more than Klaus Egge's Symphony No.1? :o

Bax's 4th symphony Handley

Beethoven's Septet, very Mozartean no wonder @Florestan likes it!  Even though it had been several years, I still remembered it once it started playing.
