Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on December 25, 2023, 09:10:38 AMInteresting approach!  I'd be a bit worried about their paws getting caught in one of the traps?
Dad just gave me a little FAQ  ;D

1. They are upside down so the trap is directly facing the floor. If you set it off, the trap closes onto the floor and the smooth wooden back flies upward. He's never known anyone to get injured that way.

2. This only works with older vintage mousetraps because the newer ones are too "good" - if you set them and then place them upside down, they go off the moment they touch the floor  ;D

3. And yes...it is not easy to set them all upside down  ;D

Those wooden ones can quite finicky to set.  I jump when they go off.  :-[  Pet peeve:  you've managed to set it up with a little bit of peanut butter, and you come back a few days later--the peanut butter is gone, but so is the mouse!

I found this post on IMGUR today. It starts out as a horror story, but it has a happy ending.

"So I'm driving down the road this morning and the cars in front of me are driving over a black thing in the road. It's going between their tires so I'm guessing it's a box. It's a kitten just sitting upright shaking like a leaf. And some asshole had spread glue on its paws and stuck it to the road. I thought maybe it walked through glue somewhere but after looking at it, that was totally spread into her paws. She was wet and freezing and literally glued to the road. And NO ONE STOPPED. ? What the f$&k people??? I slammed on my brakes and stopped all the traffic and put my hazards on and got out and pealed her off the road. People were honking and all pissy....really??? It's a kitten glued to the road!! So after a goo gone bath and some food and cream we have a new kitten. Luckiest kitten in the world!"

Some people... well, if I ever saw someone abusing an animal in that fashion I'm not sure what I would do, but it would probably land me in jail. >:(

"An eye for an eye" comes to mind.

Exactly my first reaction.

Superglue their feet to a railwayline sleeper and let them practice their "limbo".

Pohjolas Daughter

I can't believe that someone would do that!  Thank God that that man happened to see the kitten and risked his life to save it.  And then was kind enough to adopt it. ❤️

And I hope that his/her paws are o.k.

In the second one the car is cleaning them as though it thinks of them as kittens.

Seems more like the equivalent of when cats and dogs live happily in the same house and even cuddle up together.

Perhaps, but there are certainly more cats which will instinctively kill and eat chicks than there are cats which would try to kill and eat a dog.

No doubt there's a logical explanation which explains the images - perhaps the chickens and cat grew up together in close proximity - , but I'm guessing there aren't very many similar images out there.

@LKB I've seen a variety of things.  Like @SimonNZ mentioned, I think (and I'm not claiming to be an expert here) that there is often a lot of bonding when animals are introduced as babies/young to other animals and grow up together..and also when one is an adult and one a baby.  I also saw one story (and am trying to remember where I saw this other part) about the hormonal changes that female cats (and other animals) go through within a certain time window in which they are open to looking after other young.  I remember reading about an eagle that raised a hawk chick (Canada).  And a cat that looked after ducklings after having her own kittens in Ireland...I'll find that one.  Ah, here we go!  https://www.irishcentral.com/culture/craic/cat-treats-lucky-baby-ducklings-like-theyre-her-own-video

I think that there are also a lot of adult animals that are kind and sensitive and patient and compassionate to other animals (whether of their own kind or others) and make bonds with them.

It's looking through a letterbox at the bottom of a front door. We just noticed it while walking past with the dogs :-X .

The ears go back, it's growling and then opens up its mouth...why in the heck did this person try to pet it?!  And also trying to rub its nose to chin?!

No idea what boogie woogie means here.  Do you understand?
