Put aluminum foil on the countertop they said. It will deter them from jumping on the counter they said.

They're growing up and so quickly!  :)

I found that this product worked quite well.  It's basically compressed air in a can with a battery-powered sensor (which you can adjust) on the top.  It's called Ssst Cat.  I purchased mine years ago.  It's either gone up a lot in price and/or Amazon's price is really high.  I purchased mine from a local pet supply/garden shop.  Warning:  there were a few times when I forgot that I had it on the counter and ended up surprising myself!

Thanks. That is a bit pricey. I'm glad it worked for you, as it seems to get a lot of negative reviews.

Poor little Zeus is at the vet getting neutered. Not a very fun way to spend his 4 month birthday!

Bachtoven

Zeus has been home for about two hours, and you'd never know he just had surgery! After being separated from Fazi last night (no food or water after 10:00 pm) and at the vet for 9 hours, he's wildly exploring his surroundings.

Well, think of it this way:  you're doing him a favor--and yourselves too--(think of all of the health benefits including no-spraying, less aggression and fights, etc., not to mention having unwanted kittens.  Are they strictly indoor kitties?  I've gotten the impression that that is the case.).  I know that in terms of female cats, from what I understand, it can help substantially lower the risks of mammary cancer (particularly if you do it early as in before they go into their first heat).  And as you may or may not know, spaying female cats is a WHOLE lot more invasive.

Rest assured, you did the right thing...hard as it might have been for you.  :)

Thanks. Yes, both are strictly indoor kitties. He acted like nothing was wrong when we brought him home. When I took him in, I was going to ask the receptionist if they could circumcise him while they were at it, but she didn't strike me as having a sense of humor!

I've had female kittens/cats--they didn't seem to realize they had surgery, either!

My poor cat, a gentle and refined lady of later middle years, is having her life made miserable by a newcomer on the block, young, aggressive and sickeningly self-confident.  A few weeks ago there was a big fight, violent enough to knock over and break a large (and expensive >:( ) plant-pot; last night another one, leaving fur (my baby's) everywhere.  She lives in the garage (not as cruel as it sounds, since it's the warmest place in the house, nicely carpeted) but since the first fight has refused to go outside.  I put a litter-tray down for her, and yesterday as an experiment took it away - she then very neatly found a bit of cardboard to poo and pee on (so has her tray back now).  I think the new cat is also coming into the garage and helping itself to her food.  Revenge fantasies have included rat-poison in the food (although there may be a flaw in that plan somewhere) or placing a tray containing strong acid or alkali immediately inside the catflap for the bad guy to land in the next time it tries trespassing.  What I shall probably do is sit in the garage after dark tonight, wait for the thing to appear (which then it probably won't) and attempt to grab it and give it a good dunking in an icy water-butt, which may get the message home.  Any other cat-lovers suffering similar bullying?

I wouldn't make direct contact with the cat. You don't know his vaccination status, and he's bound to fight if you grab him, probably by wrapping himself around your arm or wrist and biting while raking with the hind legs. He might leave you with the worst kind of souvenir.

So... cold water, but in a spray bottle with a " stream " selection. One or two hits, he'll hopefully want no further part of your garage. And if you should happen to accidentally zap him in the face, he shouldn't take any real harm and you won't have injured someone's possible pet.

Oh, she's a pampered pet, so no doubt vaxed up-to-date (owners/new neighbours have already become good friends), although thanks for your warning.  Not much chance I will get anywhere near the thing to grab it, so am just going to lock the catflap at night for the moment - my little one is too scared to go outside anyway, and with her litter and food & drink inside, she's sorted.
