Quote from: Brian on June 03, 2024, 08:38:48 AMWow, people have been listening to a lot of interesting stuff over the past 2-3 pages, I want to go through and take notes!

I am currently being inspired by Mark Anstendig to listen for the "dolce"...although I have not equalized my headphones properly so it will probably be inaudible  ;D

You have to consume appropriate dolci, in the case of Brahms' I'd recommend Viennese pastries or cakes...
Tout le malheur des hommes vient d'une seule chose, qui est de ne savoir pas demeurer en repos, dans une chambre.

I missed that work in my collection so I purchased it. Still in cellofane though.

'The 'I' is not prior to the 'we'.' (Jean-Luc Nancy)

Hendrik Andriessen

Here is a recording of the organ works of Hendrik Andriessen performed here by an organist who was also a great improviser.

Not at a very far distance from Händel and Bach.
'The 'I' is not prior to the 'we'.' (Jean-Luc Nancy)

Symphonic Addict

Alfano: Piano Quintet in A-flat major

Pleasant and passionate late-Romantic piece.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

I'm listening to this album nowadays.

Symphonic Addict

Peterson-Berger: Violin Sonata No. 1 in E minor

Some of the best P-B I've heard, much better than the symphonies 1, 4 and 5 in development of ideas.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

I purchased this recording a few days ago, hoping to listen to it in a few days.

Symphonic Addict

Grieg: String Quartet No. 1 in G minor

The first movement has to be one of his most impassioned creations. Love this work very much.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Bachtoven

Liszt reincarnated? Maybe, just maybe.

I'm quite impressed by Vogt's Mozart.

I've loved the Triple Concerto for a long time, ever since Karajan's LP with Mutter in the 80s. I usually listen to all the versions I can get my hands ears on.

Bachtoven

Stunning playing and sound.

Found this in my letterbox when I came back from a short vacation:

Amazing. And very interesting liner notes, with eassays on the songs, performance choices and Ockeghem's last name.

Stravinsky: Concerto For Piano And Wind Orchestra

I'm enjoying this distorted form of older classical music; the dissonance gives it an edge that keeps me interested 8) .

Would get the pulse racing if coming across that issue in the pre-loved vinyl bins.

Franck: Symphony.

Talking of pulse - a full blooded performance from Martinon.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.
