Le Buisson Ardent

Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on June 12, 2024, 12:58:31 PMI only have a couple of his works but found them to be fascinating:  Black Angels (with the Kronos Quartet) and his Sonata for Solo Cello (Matt Haimovitz).

And he was an interesting guy, too. He was from West Virginia and he might have a thicker Southern accent than I do. :)

Symphonic Addict

Quote from: vandermolen on June 12, 2024, 12:56:44 AMIt's a fabulous CD.

I haven't heard the Adams yet, but the Harris is a winner on my book.
The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Symphonic Addict

Quote from: JBS on June 12, 2024, 03:00:05 AMThat entire Wolf-Ferrari series from CPO is nice.

Overall it is rather consistent. This CD, on the other hand, did disappoint me:

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Dvorak: Violin Concerto - Josef Suk/Karel Ancerl

Still sounds great.  In fact, I think it sounds better than Suk's remake with Neumann.

Something less emotionally demanding to work towards the day's end. I should listen to Santoro more often.

More engaging South American music before calling it a night. Again, I should listen to more of this music.

I managed to find all of these Glazunov Svetlanov Melodiya CDs during my time away from the forum. I bought most of them off of Discogs from a seller in Poland. I'm glad I found them as Svetlanov's Glazunov is top-drawer. I also like the Rozhdestvensky cycle on Olympia.

Quote from: Harry on June 12, 2024, 06:10:25 AMThen know from this day onward, Lydia Mordkovitch is a force and a legend. One of the best violinists that ever walked this earth. ;D

I hope this brings her more of the attention she so richly deserves.
It's all good...

JBS

From the Warner Zubin Mehta set.
I don't think I've ever heard this recording. Given that Perlman is a favorite performer of mine, and the Shostakovich a favorite concerto, rather surprising. But it is a bit tamer than I like, without the bite that is in, eg, the Mullova/Previn recording.

I really love her work, too, Harry. Good call. 8)
