I struck an acquaintance with a clarinetist who teaches in Alabama and leads a large clarinet choir. I originally wrote Misapprehension for them, but with regrets Tim told me the piece would not be suitable. "Say I were to write another piece," I returned, "what would a more suitable piece look like?" "A piece for an Alabama father to tap his toes to." Hence this piece. As it turned out, they did not play this piece, either.
