Farmland and woodland around my house, cows, donkeys, sheep, frogs, birds, foxes, bees, butterflies, squirrels, hedgehogs, wildflowers, etc etc,  ;D

Please can we come and live with you?

That is similar to my experience.  I live out of town and farms and wooded areas surround my neighborhood. The frogs croak after each rainfall.  You hear the cows in the morning.  The birds chirp.  I hear a woodpecker, two types of doves, and more.  Squirrels go scurrying over tree branches.  And in the spring there are wildflowers along the road near my house.  Occasionally a rabbit hops through my yard.

Quote from: Harry on July 19, 2024, 01:46:46 AMThe trouble with stray cats is that they eat a lot of small birds, and my wife definitely doesn't like that!

Nor the small birds, I would imagine.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Trouble is you would not get any sleep! You have to listen to this and this and this....

Much better than listening to "Beep, beep!" and the sound of dump trucks picking up trash early in the morning and lots of construction.  :)

Though I had an interesting experience last night.  The temps had dropped quite a bit, so I turned off the a/c and opened the windows--only to smell a skunk passing through my yard.  Eck!  :(

Quote from: Mandryka on July 18, 2024, 12:40:35 PMIt was the chants de Kervéléan which caught my attention on that one. I've been listening with great pleasure to the violin sonata.

Just listened, and it is splendid.

Which recording of the violin sonata?

Yes absolutely, must of course build an annex attached to my house, but hey, nothing is impossible ;D  ;D

Quote from: Harry on July 18, 2024, 11:43:51 PMYou would rejoice in it, plenty of trees, shrubs, flowers, wildlife aplenty, hidden corners, and most of the time very quiet.
Yes, this is a period of History quite favorable to shrubbers!

Just listened as well (I remembered I had that set in my collection — bought when it was first released?). I tried, but... ce n'est pas ma tasse de thé, hélas!

Quote from: Spotted Horses on July 19, 2024, 07:23:50 AMI'll make a note of it. This is the one I listened to:

There's also one with Mirielle Guillaume, Marie Viaud playing fiddle. In Orledge's book there's a lot of discussion about the violin sonata, because Koechlin wrote about what each movement meant for him in his correspondence.

I came across that one as well, and somehow decided to listen to the gramola recording instead. But now that I have come to value Guilluame, I think I will circle back. The viola and violin sonatas are both very compelling to me.

An excellent new release.

Another excellent release, but I wish the mics had been placed a little closer.
