I've been enjoying the one after that, 21, variable reprises.

"Okeanos" must be quite hair-raising and even hair-blowing in concert! The wet woman on the cover is the organist. Excellent playing and very good sound.

Saint-Saëns: Symphony in A major and Symphony No. 1

The works of a precocious genius. Outstanding performances too.

The current annihilation of a people on this planet (you know which one it is) is the most documented and at the same time the most preposterously denied.

Langgaard: String Quartets 3 and 4 and Rosengaardsspil (from the Dacapo set)

The 3rd SQ strikes me like moody and whimsical. It's Langgaard at his most quirky.

Another possible weakness I find in these works (and in other works of his) is that he reused/recycled material. The 4th SQ Sommerdage shares part of its themes with Rosengaardsspil. To me, they are not totally "original". Even so, I prefer how he incorporated the ideas in the 4th SQ more than in the another piece.

Well, the recycling is understandable when he wasn't getting works performed or published. There was material that he liked which he was giving another chance.

.

Really well done, but that can be expected from an expert in the field. Rarily Smith disappoints. Delicate, adding a bit of warmth, and a genuine enthusiasm for this composer. A good recording. I added the titles, because the back cover is not really readable.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Quote from: André on August 19, 2024, 10:39:20 AMThis was my intro to CPE Bach 3 decades ago. Haven't listened to it in years, although the 'Triumph' chorus at the end still resonates in the mind. In the queue it goes 😉

I have this one:

A long time ago there was a radio program on the Belgian BRT on Wednesday evenings, which devoted extensive attention to Carl Philip Emanuel Bach (and other baroque music). Unfortunately the program disappeared.
