I'm keeping it short, to serve as an encore, two, maybe three minutes. Having fun with it, though.

Quote from: Pohjolas Daughter on July 22, 2024, 09:31:07 AMAny news regarding work ...?

I poked around indeed.com a couple of times, and yesterday I found a part-time Front Desk job here in Woburn (so the hours and location are ideal. And the position was marked "hiring urgently.") It was my first experience applying for a job online (and I found the site a smidge buggy.) Time was passing today and I hadn't heard anything, so I took the initiative to call to follow up (and the lady remarked that they've had dodgy experiences on the indeed side) and in conclusion, I have an interview tomorrow.

Nostalgia Trips

Down Along the Canal to Minerva Road, Op. 149a
Jazz for Nostalgic Squirrels, Op. 117a
Music for the Un-Hip Hop, Op. 178
A new piece by Pam Marshall

And I'm toying with the idea of writing a short piece, Nostalgia Ain't What It Used to Be (Op. 190).

Well, so here's the "repertory pool"

Nostalgia Trips

Down Along the Canal to Minerva Road, Op. 149a 8:00
Jazz for Nostalgic Squirrels, Op. 117a 6:00
Music for the Un-Hip Hop, Op. 178 (two flutes) 6:30
Surfing an Earthquake, Op. 190 (three flutes) 6:30
Nostalgia Ain't What It Used to Be, Op. 191 2:30
Alan Westby, The Quiet Girl 6:00
Pam Marshall, title t/b/d 8:00
Total duration: 43:30

It's more music than we need for King's Chapel, but if miraculously we can agree on a date for the Woburn Public Library, we could play the lot there.

Quote from: Karl Henning on August 14, 2024, 01:14:26 PMI've found another call for orchestral scores. Part of me wants to get For You, Fuchsia out as often as possible, especially as a chamber orchestra piece which is relatively easy to put together. However, this other call specifically states Symphony Orchestra, so I should submit something with a fuller wind complement. I have until August's end, so I'll probably find a suitable number from White Nights. I'm tempted to submit the Overture, except it has a passage of quirky metrical changes, and my sense is that this might be too much of a stretch for this orchestra. So instead, I'll settle on a number with a more thoroughly straightforward metrical profile.

(The quirky meter section begins around the 6:20 mark.)

I listened to that a few days ago but didn't have time to scribble anything, but I enjoyed it, and enjoyed it again just now. Listening through the midi to try to hear what the acoustic version might sound like made me very curious to hear that, I hope it gets given a performance sometime, it certainly deserves it. It has a certain languorous warmth I like a lot, and I was going to say that I really liked the change of terrain at around 6.20, and then I glanced up and see you noted that very moment as tricky to play, but anyway it works well, as does the whole thing.
The Intermezzo I is very attractive and atmospheric too, well worth an ensemble's or anybody's attention. Hope it does well.

From the few times that I've listened to it, I preferred the overture.  Perhaps it might have to do with not having heard much Midi and wondering at times as to which instruments you had written for and just overall the sound?  Does that make sense?

Yes, the MIDI gives the music a bit of a dodgy profile.
