Supposedly (when I googled), the picture is of a cat-friendly "cake" that one could make.

I've read that cats are not normally attracted to sweet food—-apparently their taste buds aren't sensitive to it.

Yes, I've read that too.  I didn't google the article/recipe directly, but what I was trying to suggest (and also try to be nice and also add a bit of humor) is that there are folks who will make things that their cats can eat (and hopefully also enjoy) which maybe are a bit of a treat, but also shaped in the form that humans would probably view as a sort of *cake/cupcake/treat....that's all.  :)

*Think molds, etc., wet food...tuna....maybe some dried cat treats perhaps involved?  I've never tried to make anything for my cats' birthdays, so can't give you a recipe.

EDIT:  @Bachtoven updated...hope that it makes more sense to you now.

Congratulations 🙂

Another lovely-looking kitty.  What's her personality like?

She varies, partly dependent on where Rosie is. They don't fight, but it would be fair to say that she mostly ignores Rosie. When she is present there is general frostiness. If the little one is elsewhere, then she will come and climb into my arms like a baby - particularly if I am working at my desk.

Have you tried using things like a cat wand toy and trying to get them to play together?  Cat wand could be various things.  There's a brand in the US called CatDancer.  Look at Amazon for their products.  Could be fake bird feathers attached to a stick via a string, etc.  Just a suggestion.  I also don't know what kind of health your older cat is in.  Different cats like different toys.  Do you play with them much?  Sorry, not meant as a criticism, just a question.  Every cat is different.

All the best,

Yeah, without success really. Feathers on sticks, balls, catnip toys, LED spotter...

Rosie is far more playful and far less cuddly, tbh. She will happily sit and groom our labrador. Pekoe is completely disinterested in all of the above, but will engage in kneading and bunting before sitting on me particularly. Mornings, she only ever curls up on my wife, oddly enough.

As you say, very different.

He's clearly fallen into the right hands! A fortunate cat  :)

Stumbled across this youtube poster.  This one cracked me up (especially the balance beam part):

A new neighbor moved in recently who has a cat that runs like hell whenever she sees me. This is extremely frustrating because I have had very good relations with all the other local cats. I am determined to win this one over but I suspect it might take years to win her trust.

Hmm...so, it's an indoor/outdoor kitty?  I suspect that it's trying to adjust to (from a cat's perspective) a new *neighborhood/territory....and is, frankly cautious and scared....new animals, new people, doesn't know the territory and safe spots...and probably not just you that the cat is running away from. Don't blame yourself.  Just be calm and be nice and give it space.  :)

*not to mention a new house...is the owner of it new too?

And good on you for wanting to be friends with it!  And trying! ❤️

Nah, this cat has issues. She needs a therapist. There are squirrels around here less avoidant.

There's one who will eat nuts out of my hand. He must be well fed because he doesn't come around very often.

Ah, sweet!  I had a babysitter [Way back when in the land before time] who used to feed a squirrel(s?).  It/they would come up to a window on her roof.  She would open it...and if I'm recalling correctly, leave some peanuts outside the window; don't think that she feed them directly, but again it's been a LONG time.

She also used to have a beautiful cat that she just called Kitty who I liked.  Thinking back, it looked like a Norwegian Forest cat.  The very nice woman was originally from Norway; however, I suspect that it was just a pretty long-haired cat.  :)

Happy first birthday to Zeus! He's grown into quite a sweet young man...and quite a character!
