Quote from: Valentino on August 20, 2024, 10:39:12 AMI do that all the time. The beautiful TD 521 is for sale.
Does he have one which has the nice wooden plinth...or?

It's the red tinted 521 pictured above.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Do you think that he's trying to tempt you into buying it (or are you trying to tempt yourself?  ;D  ).

He's been trying! I like my TD 125 Mk. II a lot you know. Stiffened plinth, modern control board with 78 instead of 16 2/3 rpm so it equals the 521 for functionality, and it has the excellent Bokrand AS-230 tonearm. It's also much more compact than the TD 521 (most turntables are though).
BTW I'm picking up the real TD 521 predecessor the large plinth TD 125 LB for my friend this Friday. It looks like this:

He'll give the plinth new veneer and solidify it with birch veneer like he did with mine, put in new central movement bushings, a new control board, and a 12" arm, be it a Jelco, a Bokrand or an SME. He's got them all.
I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

The pickup went well and my friend is over the moon. I dropped by a used hifi and vinyl shop while I was in the area. Lots of nice old turntables including a couple of damn good looking EMT 938s, plus something as rare as a pair of KEF KM1 stashed in modules in a corner.

I bought three LPs, among them my fourth copy of that Geza Anda recording of Mozart PC 17 & 21. German pressing, inner sleeve dated 1969. Not a first release of course.

The cover looks like this, but the one I bought for MOK 30 is much prettier, it even had the original shrink wrap, was priced in dollars and it also has a Grand Prix du Disque sticker:

If you havent seen the film Elvira Madigan by Bo Widerberg you should. It's ridiculously beautiful.

I love music. Sadly, I'm an audiophile too.

Another oldie, this time via Discogs:

M2 Kubelik. Two interesting things about this German first pressing: The cover is DGG and the labels DG. One catalog number for each record, and each record has a side 1 and 2.

Not a first pressing, but a double DG album of Oistrach and Pischner on my shelves performing Bach Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord is numbered in the same way, 2539 055 record 1 and 2539 056 record 2. However, unlike your example, sides are numbered 1 to 4.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Fjeldstadt's 'Peer Gynt' is one of the finest sounding LPs I have heard.

When Vaughan Williams Veranda gets up to speed on the composer thread it never fails to make for an interesting and enlightening posts from the usual RVW suspects - you know who you are. ;)

Not only a good read but heightens music appreciation. For me in this case RVW 9th Symphony.

The American label Everest shipped over their recording equipment and chief sound engineer Ben Whyte across the pond to make this and other recordings.
British Everest pressings are poor and imported US pressings are pricey. A saving grace being that Everest licenced recordings to the subscription only label The World Record Club. I value Everest/WRC issues highly.
I understand a short speech by Boult included in original which WRC chose to omit.

If I have it right if it has a 139 xxx number and it doesn't have tulips around the label it is not a first pressing. The label has the appearance of the later 2530 xxx numbered series.
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

Owning up here, I am glad they have. May work for CD as you can programme it out but for LP bit of a pain to be honest. Saying that I love hearing Arthur Butterworth's music but his posh clipped English voice I have on CD I find off-putting, does anybody speak like that anymore?. Rather listen to the music.

^The only source I have for oddities like this Kubelik M2 is Discogs. I haven't found any  tulip label versions.

For those like us... I found a treasure in the local used bins yesterday. Liv Glaser's 60 years old complete recordings of the Grieg Lyric Pieces. Four single LPs, all together, and well kept:

Congratulations.

Happens all the time. Listening to a LP which in my time-warped world I think current only to discover over a half-century old and some! Bit like me and some! Still sounds good though.

I hadn't heard of her before now.  How did you like the performances?

The older that I get my brain/mouth keeps on thinking/saying things like "But that was only...."
Alas, the mirror reminds me otherwise.  :(

Sorry for the delay. Liv Glaser plays Grieg with finesse. These are lyric pieces not to be hammered like Gilels did.

Something pretty (click to enlarge):

Thorens TD 125 LB (Modification/modernization: Mk. II electronics with new 78 rpm board, stiffened plinth.)
Bokrand AB309 tonearm on Konne Design Corian arm board
