CD 1
String Quartet in e minor Op 23
String Quartet in a minor
String Quintet in C Op 24*
[Quartetto Eos *with Matteo Rocchi viola]
80'31"
CD 2
String Trio in b minor
String Trio in c minor
String Trio in a minor Op 32
[Trio David]
47'31"
Only the third and fourth movements of the Trio in c minor are played here, since Wolf-Ferrari simply took the first two movements of the Trio in b minor, transposed them to the new key, and used them as the first two movements of the Trio in c minor. IOW it's the b minor Trio with a different Scherzo and an extra movement as the finale.

Noted, thanks for the pointer. Selected it on Qobuz.

A Golden Cello Decade, -1878–1888-
See for details the back cover.

Steven Isserlis, cello.
Connie Shih, piano.
Olivia Jageurs, harp.
Recorded in Henry Wood Hall, London, on 5–7 July 2021
.

This disc will put a smile on everybody's face, and gladden the heart if it needs it. A sentimental potpourri, certainly, but there is nothing wrong with that, now is it? Apart from this some real gems are on this disc, Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch is one of them, beautiful played on Cello, Piano & Harp. It makes quite an impression. Strauss Cello Sonata is another, and what to think of the almost forgotten Cello Sonata by Luise Adolpha Le Beau  (1850–1927) in D major, Opus 17, for me a highlight on this disc, and makes me wonder why she is forgotten in the first place. Beautifully recorded and performed!

Steven Isserlis was at the same school as myself although not in the same year. I remember his name from my school days!

Spatial distortion is a serious problem deteriorating headphone listening.
Crossfeeders reduce spatial distortion and make the sound more natural
and less tiresome in headphone listening.

Such a thing can only happen in England, the place is simply infested with famous musicians. ;D  ;D

When Geminiani's name came up in another thread I was going to mention this disc - its absolutely lovely - interesting music vibrantly played.

Poulenc: Concert champêtre

I'm not sure whether I've ever heard the piece before, if so it would only be once several years ago. I went for the version that Hurwitz recommends with great enthusiasm, and I'm certainly enjoying it.

Amy Beach.
Piano Quintet in F Sharp minor.
Edward Elgar, Piano Quintet in A minor.
See for further details back cover.
Recorded in the Concert Hall, Wyastone Estate, Monmouth, on 19 –22 May 2019.
Gramophone Award winner, 2021.

Truly a fine disc, and especially because of Amy Beach's composition, so rarely heard. Elgar Piano Quintet is an ideal partner, and evidently also a great work. The recording is excellent as is the performance.

Dvorak: Slavonic Dances for piano 4-hands, op.46

While I do appreciate the other discs in this box, it's the 2 discs of piano duets that sealed the deal for me. I want to find another Dvorak-loving pianist to learn at least some of the Slavonic Dances with.

"Concert champêtre" was one of the works that marked my love of Poulencs music.  - in this LP version

...quickly followed by.... the Litanies pour la vierge noire de Rocamadour, Gloria and Stabat mater (Régine Crespin) and the Suite Française. Les animaux modèles, Les biches and that exquisite miniature Bucolique...

On the strength of KV 526 alone, this is a terrific set.

Although, of course, it's not complete at all.  ;D
