Quote from: Florestan on October 23, 2024, 11:15:32 AMWell, given Faure's reluctance to give names to his piano pieces (according to his son, he'd rather have prefered to title them Piano Piece No. This or That) ...
Yes, Fauré was Stockhausen avant la lettre...  :)

Good evening, Andrei!

Here, listening to Vlado Perlemuter play Mozart's Piano Sonatas K330 to K333, and the Fantasia in C minor K475.

Had some very hectic and stressful days, needed some very calm and soothing music.

Verily did the trick.

Ravel: String Quartet

A fine, elegant account of this piece. I wonder if there have been atrocious performances of it.

and Foerster: Symphonies 3 and 4 from these recordings respectively:

There is a little of advance with respect to the first two. In the 3rd each movement gave me the impression of being better than the previous one.

Even though the majestic ending of the 4th lifted my spirits, it didn't thrill me much this time.

Just the 6th in the latter case.

A YouTuber was nice enough to compile and combine all of Naxos's Vivaldi' Cello Concertos (Raphael Wallfisch) into a single video, making for easy listening:

The music is, of course, rich and sonorous. :)

I think that's an excellent cycle of quartets that ought to be much better known.

Not as interesting as the volume 1, but enjoyable, nonetheless. The Sunday Sonata is one of those strange inventions proper of this composer. In 4 movements, the first two are for violin and piano, whereas in the third and four movements only participate a solo organ and organ with orchestra respectively. Man, this is wacky, and a curiosity to behold.
