EDIT: Wow, the review on Qobuz is so harsh on Rautavaara! Check this out:
"Einojuhani Rautavaara is arguably Finland's most popular modern composer because of his approachable, neo-Romantic orchestral music; yet his works'

Reads like Santa Fe Listener.

That's an oddly negative thing to have in a description of the album, though it is marked as a review if you click on "Read More".  It has a TiVo copyright, so I assume they just bought access these TiVo reviews to provide album info without thinking too carefully about the content.

Maderna: Piano Concerto

An unlost early work from 1942, good stuff in a non-avant-garde style 8) .

steve ridgway

Penderecki: Capriccio For Oboe And String Orchestra

The skittering strings make a strong contrast to the more conventionally bird like oboe 8) .

Stravinksy: Berceuses du Chat

Interesting lightly orchestrated short songs 8) .

Webern: Six Pieces For Large Orchestra, Op. 6

Atmospheric and dramatic 8) .

Ligeti: Violin Concerto

After an introductory movement it sounded like a piece from his early years in Hungary but this seemed to get transformed into something quite alien, accompanied in places by some very unusual sounding high woodwinds :o .

Scriabin: Preludes

A interlude of a few short orchestrated preludes ;) .

steve ridgway

Stravinksy: Symphony In Three Movements

Good dramatic work 8) .

Spinning - Mozart: Sonata for Piano & Violin K.454.

Goldberg's musical unflashy playing is a good fit for a body of work where piano is the stronger partner.
You must have a very good opinion of yourself to write a symphony - John Ireland.

I opened the door people rushed through and I was left holding the knob - Bo Diddley.

Oddities & Trifles.
The very Peculiar Instrumental Music of Giovanni Valentini, (c.1582-1649)
Acronym.
Recorded: 2014, at the Old Meeting House, Francestown, NH.
See back cover for details.

This must be the best recording so far I heard from Acronym. Not only is Valentini a rare visitor, this recording is also a novelty. It feels so organically, and is flowing so easily, that it actually feels like a warm balm. This is a recording that all lovers of this genre should have. SOTA sound.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;

Le Temps retrouvé.
Music for Violin and Piano.
Elena Urioste, Violin, & Tom Poster, Piano
See back cover for details.
Recording venue Potton Hall, Dunwich, Suffolk; 23 – 25 June 2023.

A really fine mix of composers. Melanie Bonis Violin Sonata was for me the reason why I started listening to this disc, and it was no punishment. Two very sensitive performers, put down an interpretation which makes a firm impression. The careful handling of the notes in the Third movement made me happy indeed. The rest of the music gets the same treatment too, so I am inclined to say, that it is recommendable for the novelty of such an approach as by this ensemble, and the intrinsic value of the music, which they bring out perfectly. Excellent sound.

Another searing piece of playing from Trifonov. And another knockout Schumann Fantasie.

Traverso

This is the first LP of medieval music I've bought and the ensemble "Studio der Frühen Musik" was a great eye-opener.That was about fifty yeard ago.

Disc three, the last of the acoustic recordings.  The Schumann PC has good things, but acoustic orchestral recordings always lack that little something.  Old time interpretative devices do come close to offsetting what is lost.
