Played two of them this morning. :)

To be delivered on Saturday from Italy (even having to pay for shipping, the price at Amazon Italy is much more attractive than anywhere else I could see)...

Plenty of Ives for this autumn...  :)

Frederic Devreese conducts on all 3 discs. He's the son of composer Godfried Devreese as well as a composer in his own capacity.

Quote from: JBS on October 07, 2024, 04:42:33 PMOrdered what was apparently the only copy on Amazon MP, a used copy from Momox whose delivery is promised for sometime in November.  Well, at least they're honest about using a clipper ship to get it across the Atlantic...

The companion CD with SQs 1 and 5 was listed on Amazon when I first looked last week but now it seems to have disappeared. Fortunately I have those quartets as recorded by the Liepzig SQ, so I don't have to sigh over it.

It landed today, well within the promised delivery period. They seem to have opted for DHL instead of clipper ship.

I dare say that's more Chuck than I could handle, but it looks like a beautiful set. Nice work finding a good price on it.

Now you just need the other 4 volumes >:D  (All good, needless to say.)

I've decided on getting volumes 3-5 on disc. :)
Might add some other recordings by Gothic Voices as well.

A very sensitive yet unsentimental vision of the 9th. For those who'd like Mehta without the dawdle, this is extremely fine. The Tokyo orchestra is perfectly attuned to Bruckner's sound world and the recording clear and solid.

Quote from: Madiel on September 25, 2024, 02:24:11 AMI am clearly in the mood to clean up various things in the "look, I already made my mind up ages ago that I wanted this" category.

I think still having a bank balance after the Spain-Portugal trip has freed me up for these really quite small purchases. Even if too many of them would add up...

EDIT: I just find the phenomenon of collaborative works really interesting, even if the music might not all be my absolute favourite. I know there are some other examples but the French seem to have been particularly keen on this sort of thing for a period in the early 20th century. And between them these albums do a great job of collecting prominent examples. You get little chunks in the complete works of Ravel, or Poulenc, but not the context.

On the weekend I contacted the eBay seller of the Geoffrey Simon album, Rarewaves, to say it still hadn't arrived, and to ask whether they had any records at their end to shed light on where it got up to. They promptly gave me a refund.

It arrived today, of course.

It looks as if it might not have actually been posted until nearly a month after my order, which would explain why it didn't arrive when it was supposed to (assuming the date printed on the package is accurate). Not normal behaviour for Rarewaves, who I've not had a problem with before.

Anyway, I've let them know it's here. Maybe they'll reverse the refund. Or maybe I've got the album for free?
Every single post on the forum is unnecessary. Including the ones that are interesting or useful.

Well, that was good of you to let them know that it had arrived.  And glad that you received "your beloved".   ;)  :)

Lydia Maria Blank is a very special musician whose releases are well worth exploring. She has also been kind enough to send me all her non-commercial recordings on homemade CDRs. Most of it can be downloaded on her website, but some of it only as mp3 files.

I thought it was excellent. Originally a Bachtoven find.
