SQ, Volume I.
Arcadia Quartet.
Recording venue Potton Hall, Dunwich, Suffolk; 4–6 March 2020.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.

Traverso

Couperin

I like this performance which for me is a welcome addition to Rousset's recordings

Spotted Horses

Quote from: André on November 10, 2024, 03:45:04 PMArnold's 9 rival any cycle ever penned. And the 7th is his most unsettling work. The composer's take on the work is much slower than any, like every work of his he conducted - it is unlike any other. Not just unsettling, it's devastating. It's on YT.

Maybe Arnold is what it will take to get me out of my Martinu binge. :)
Formerly Scarpia (Scarps), Baron Scarpia, Ghost of Baron Scarpia, Varner, Ratliff, Parsifal, perhaps others.

Same pieces but now with Rousset wich is unfortunaly out of print.

The entire opus has seven Meditations: Veni, Sancte Spiritus is #1.

Greatly recommended!

Another winner in the 2032 Haydn series. I especially like n°90 here.

The first half of life is spent in longing for the second, the second half in regretting the first.

@Spotted Horses You may like this, these early pieces by Dutilleux are redolent of Koechlin. Very pleasant and easy to listen to.

And an excellent performance of the op 1 piano sonata there. Top tier Dutilleux CD, this.

I intended to have this as background music while reading a novel, but my interest was piqued from the very first bars and increased as time went by, so that, although I did read many chapters of that novel, I will certainly listen to this disc again, with the undivided attention the music deserves.

The entire set (12 quartets on 4 volumes) is very much worthwhile.  :)

I have them all, that's why I thought it was a good idea to start the whole cycle.

Salon music in the best sense of the word. Echoes from Mendelssohn, Schumann and Chopin --- and all the better for that. @Brian, give this a try.
