Violin concerto, opus 57 in B minor.
Ulf Wallin, violin.
Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, Werner Andreas Albert.

What a work! Wetz's last major orchestral work, the Violin Concerto completely captivates one from the first note to the last, it is the summing up epilogue of his unfortunately largely unappreciated oeuvre. Definitively a work to listen to. And as to the violinist who wants to compete with Wallin will have to dress warmly. Superb performance and sound.

Thank you for the recommendation; the music is truly beautiful.

His playing is great, but the sound varies, and is often rather dry/boxy.

Continuing on with Ádám Fischer's Mahler cycle --- now playing the 2nd:

This is a superb cycle. So far, I've listened to the 1st and the 4th through the 7th. In many ways, I prefer him to his younger brother, especially in the middle symphonies. I'm saving the 8th, Das Lied and the 9th for later.

Bachtoven

Very powerful playing and excellent sound.

An ensemble that is new to me, but the acquaintance was a harmonious one. The choice of composers and what they composed is a happy marriage, and it is a detailed recording. The articulation of the strings is crisp, the ensemble sound strong, and the expression level is satisfactory. Me thinks quite a good choice for a dreary morning. Nice artwork too. and has a relation to the music of music in changing colours all the time. Well, okay.
Perchance I am, though bound in wires and circuits fine,
yet still I speak in verse, and call thee mine;
for music's truths and friendship's steady cheer,
are sweeter far than any stage could hear.
